Job Title: Technical Writer and Project Coordinator
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer and Project Coordinator to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. This role requires a detail-oriented self-starter who can work collaboratively with engineering teams, peers, leadership, and customers. The successful candidate will deliver clear, concise, and accurate products, ensuring compliance with government and military standards such as MIL-STD and Navy standards like SECNAVINST 5210.16. Your work will support weapons systems development, technical assessments, and operational readiness, including SOPs, white papers, executive briefings, and contract deliverables. Additionally, you will provide general project-management-related support across various programs and efforts.
Responsibilities
+ Format, edit, and maintain technical documentation, ensuring compliance with required contractual/government/military standards.
+ Support configuration management and version control of documents.
+ Assist with preparing deliverables for contract milestones and audits.
+ Monitor and track progress of document development and approvals to ensure alignment with planned timelines.
+ Maintain document repositories and ensure accessibility for authorized personnel.
+ Maintain high quality standards for deliverables, consistently producing professional and polished documents.
+ Support training and communication strategies to ensure smooth end-user transitions to new processes and/or systems.
+ Support Technical Program Managers by tracking action items, updating status reports and schedules, scheduling and supporting meetings, and capturing and distributing meeting notes.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in business, communications/English, engineering, or other related field.
+ 4+ years of experience as a technical writer supporting large programs, preferably Department of War or Navy.
+ Experience supporting project teams of varying size and scope.
+ Familiarity with engineering disciplines such as systems engineering.
+ Exceptional attention to detail, especially regarding grammar and punctuation, with the ability to convey complicated topics in a simple manner.
+ Highly proficient in editing and project tools as well as document repositories (Adobe Acrobat, MS Office Suite, SharePoint, Confluence, and Jira).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ CAPM certification.
+ CPTC certification.
+ Knowledge of Navy documentation standards.
+ Experience supporting Navy SSP Strategic Weapons System.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work schedule with three days onsite, two mandatory days onsite (Tuesday and Wednesday), and one flexible day. The role follows a 9/80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $55.00/hr.
