    Senior Data Engineer

     

    Full/Part Time: Full-Time

    Responsibilities:

    OPPD's Senior Data Engineer combines engineering and data analytics in support of the Asset Management/Power Quality team achieving innovation and turning vision into reality by defining, driving, and communicating digital solutions. This position works to enhance asset management and power quality processes making strides in data analytics, querying, and automation to support the analytics to better know and understand the health and performance of the energy delivery assets and to produce insights . Specific duties include:

     

    + Administering and continuously improving Maintenance Optimization and Asset Management Programs for OPPD's transmission, distribution, and substation systems to ensure an economical and reliable energy source for OPPD¿s customers;

    + Supporting development and maintenance of asset management plans, including lists and hierarchies, identifying asset inventory and condition, calculating business risk evaluations, determining asset net present value and life cycle costs, and developing alternatives for cost-effective operations and maintenance and long-term investment.

    + Defining, developing, optimizing, and sustaining techniques to identify, gather, analyze, visualize, and communicate data using automation as far as practical to optimize reliability, cost, and customer satisfaction for the Transmission, Substation, and Distribution systems, which includes:

    + Determining analytical methods for asset failure prediction, condition assessment, and performance monitoring and reporting;

    + Capturing and combining an assortment of data (Customer, Outage, Geospatial, Asset, & Performance) from a variety of sources and if needed creating new or experimental frameworks to collect absent data;

    + Working with large data sets and complex information to find usable information;

    + Interpreting data, correlating data, and finding trends and patterns to gain data driven insights and actionable results to determine the direction and make decisions that will optimize reliability, cost, and customer satisfaction;

    + Prototyping, testing, and deploying advanced analytics using predictive modeling, machine learning, and other advanced techniques to move toward more proactive way of handling asset management;

    + Building creative visualizations that tell a story and effectively communicate detailed insights and results to both technical and non-technical audiences including the senior team, board of directors, Resource Planning Committee, and other departments;

    + Improving performance through meaningful metrics and key performance indicators that measure the effectiveness of the Asset Management and Power Quality programs; and

    + Automating the 'boring' to reduce manual tasks and allow time and focus on higher value work, building automation to support data collection, analytics, tracking, and reporting;

    + Educating, empowering and equipping AMMO/PQ for self-led productivity by coaching and mentoring peers on technology and analysis tools developed and utilized;

    + Staying abreast, evaluating, and supporting the use of technology and philosophies related to asset management and maintenance optimization (including geographic information system, data analytics and visualization, inspection technologies, drone, and power quality monitoring) and their integration into the vision and roadmap for the modern OPPD electric system and supporting technologies (Electric System Evaluation and Modernization Strategic Initiative); and

    + Investigating, analyzing, and solving power quality related problems at customer locations and providing recommendations to mitigate.

    Qualifications:

    Master's Degree in Computer or Data Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related technology field (foreign equivalent accepted) and 3 years' experience in data analytics or data engineering;

    OR

    A Bachelor's Degree in Computer or Data Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related technology field (foreign equivalent accepted) and 5 years' experience in data analytics or data engineering.

    Required experience must include:

    + 3 years of experience creating dashboard visualizations with Tableau or Power BI;

    + 2 years of experience in programming using R or Python;

    + 2 years of experience in data management tools including SQL;

    + 2 years of experience with spatial data formats, spatial transformations, and geospatial data analysis;

    + 2 years of experience with Git workflows including feature branching, pull requests, and code reviews in the context of data operations;

    + 1 years of experience in automating code quality assurance, unit tests, and functional tests;

    + 1 year of experience in workflow automation with CI/CD pipelines; and

    + 1 year of experience with data orchestration and management in Cloud ecosystems.

    Must be proficient in:

    + Data stewardship within an enterprise data governance platform;

    + Performing complex technical tasks; and

    + Conducting in-depth analysis.

    Location of Employment: Location: 1919 Aksarben Drive, Omaha, NE 68106. May work remotely from home from any location in the Omaha, Nebraska/Council Bluffs, Iowa metropolitan statistical area.
