Overview
The Hardware Engineer will be member of the Experiences + Devices segment of Microsoft, which includes Surface, PC Accessories and Xbox Hardware. They will work closely with Industrial Designers, Mechanical Engineers, Manufacturing Specialists and Prototype Model Builders in the pursuit of developing world-class hardware products.
The Hardware Engineer will be responsible for the development and delivery of ID-sensitive 3D CAD models created using a variety of CAD software tools, including Creo Parametric, Blender, Rhino and Alias. This work will include the enhancement and evolution of existing products, as well as the development of new product designs and concepts.

Responsibilities
The Studio Engineer will be responsible for:
+ Working with the Industrial Design, User Experience, Mechanical Engineering and Prototyping Teams in the development of 3D CAD models ranging from rough concepts to final production CAD models.
+ Representing the Studio Engineering Team daily in our Industrial Design Studio in Redmond, Washington. This is not a remote position.
+ Understanding and supporting Mechanical Engineering, Tooling, and Manufacturing requirements, while delivering the Industrial Design intent through to production.
+ Acting as a liaison between the ID and ME teams, ensuring that all ID requirements are captured, while helping to resolve ME issues during the development of a product.
+ Providing the necessary information to Model Builders to develop physical appearance prototype models.
+ Participating in the creative development of new concepts and the evolution of existing concepts in development.
+ Meeting project schedules as required to support our fast-paced product development process.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
+ OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Requirements:
+ At least 2 years of industry experience operating Parametric 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, Creo, NX or Catia.
+ At least 2 years of industry experience working directly with an Industrial Design team.
+ Technical experience with Mechanical Engineering, and the manufacturing of consumer products.
+ A solid grasp of Creo Parametric Software, Top-Down Design, Skeleton Models.
+ Experience with rapid prototyping processes (3D Printing, CNC, etc.).
+ Experience with subdivision modeling (Blender, Rhino, Creo, Alias, etc.).
+ Experience with rendering for product visualization (Keyshot, Blender, etc.).
+ A record of being well-organized, particularly with regards to managing the CAD data created while pursuing multiple design development paths.

Hardware Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
