Position Summary
Provides comprehensive preoperative evaluations and medical clearances for surgical patients. The NP collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists and other healthcare providers to optimize patients’ medical conditions before surgery, ensuring patient safety and minimizing perioperative risks. quality nursing care through the application of the nursing process using evidence based practice focusing on excellent outcomes and patient experience within the framework of Shared Governance.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Oversight and responsibility for staffing and operations.
2. Perform thorough preoperative assessment
3. Orders per surgical protocol and interpret laboratory tests, ECGs, imaging, and other diagnostic evaluations. 4. Identify potential anesthesia or surgical risks and coordinate with anesthesia and surgical teams for management. 5. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to facilitate timely surgical clearances. 6. Provides safe patient care
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Required:
Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Preferred:
Doctorate in Nursing
Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):
Required:
Five years clinical nursing experience.
Preferred:
Two-years of clinical experience as an NP, preferably in pre-admission testing, perioperative care, internal medicine, or acute care.
License, Registry or Certification:
Required:
Current NJ RN licensure, along with national certification as a nurse practitioner (e.g., FNP, ANP, or AGNP). BLS
Preferred:
Certification in specialty.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Required:
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills. Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities. Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation. Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative relationships. Knowledge of perioperative risk assessment and management principles.
