    Job Description

    The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

     

    The New York City Department of Correction seeks to recruit a detail-oriented individual to serve as an Operations Auditor within the Human Resources Personnel Division. Under the direction of the Central Support and Audits Supervisor, the Operations Auditor will play a key role in conducting employee separation audits, processing time and leave transactions, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of employee data across multiple human resources and payroll systems. In this role, the Operations Auditor will support the timely and accurate resolution of audit findings, system updates, and employee inquiries in accordance with applicable laws, rules, policies, and departmental standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    - Conduct time balance audits for separating employees and military personnel to ensure accuracy and compliance with established policies and procedures.

     

    - Process and update NYCAPS transactions, including the submission of system tickets as required to resolve discrepancies or processing issues.

     

    - Update leave codes for retirees and military personnel, ensuring all payroll systems reflect accurate data.

     

    - Review and implement DP-2001 submissions and process manual leave adjustment transactions in CityTime in accordance with governing guidelines.

     

    - Complete 0150 and 0180 transactions in CityTime for separating and returning employees, ensuring timely and accurate system updates.

     

    - Review and implement Worker’s Compensation Restoration memorandums sent by the NYC Law Department.

     

    - Generate and analyze system reports in CHRMS, NYCAPS, and other applicable systems to support auditing and reconciliation activities.

     

    - Serve as a point of contact for employees by researching and resolving time and leave discrepancies in a professional and customer-focused manner.

     

    - Ensure all activities are performed in full compliance with applicable laws, rules, policies, confidentiality standards, and internal protocols.

     

    - Perform related duties as assigned or as necessary to support unit operations.

     

    Preferred Skills

     

    - Strong attention to detail.

     

    - Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.

     

    - Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

     

    - Familiarity with New York City databases preferred but not required.

     

    - Ability to learn new systems and procedures.

     

    - Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

     

    - Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

     

    - Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

    2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

    3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
