    Job Description:

    Contributes to the Hospital’s mission by performing cardiac ultrasound testing procedures for physician review and interpretation. Under general supervision of the department manager, the lead sonographer will ensure that echocardiographic testing procedures are performed according to clinic and departmental policies and standards. In the lead role, in collaboration with the department manager, this position supports staff, oversees daily operations, staff schedules, and troubleshoots issues to maximize the department’s efficiency and accuracy.

     

    The lead develops and promotes collaborative relationships with department team members, patient care teams, and referring teams. The lead role will promote patient satisfaction, providing quality images and the best possible experience for our patient.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    + Provides overall technical supervision of Echo services

    + Assists in developing staffing patterns, schedules, workflows, protocols, and troubleshooting issues

    + Monitors supply inventory, service needs for equipment, and purchase review for new echo equipment

    + Performs all testing procedures in the echocardiography including contrast studies

    + Assesses and recognizes normal/abnormal anatomy/pathology, tailoring scope of exam as indicated

    + Demonstrates knowledge of what constitutes appropriate clinical history for each Echo exam

    + Reviews exams with Cardiologists as necessary, contributing technical and professional knowledge

    + Displays knowledge of principles of Echo and effectively screens patients to eliminate risk

    + Responds appropriately to medical emergencies and displays ability to function effectively and appropriately in stressful situations

    + Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with patients, patient’s families, staff, physicians and medical office personnel

    + Communicates, orally and in writing, effectively to promote teamwork and team problem solving efforts

    + Participate in IAC reaccreditation process

    + Assists in Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures, and regulatory requirements

    + Assists Non-Invasive Cardiology Manager to ensure that staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including applicable licensure, certification, and/or accreditation standards

    + Ability to work at a quick pace with minimal supervision

    + Ability to concentrate, prioritize in multitask setting

    + Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to staff and function as a supervisor

    + Ensures a safe testing environment in all daily operations

    + Adapts to and works effectively in a variety of situations and settings

    + Complies with all BID Plymouth policies and procedures

    Education/Experience Required:

    Associate degree and/or graduate of an accredited echocardiography program or relevant clinical experience resulting in registry

     

    + 3-5 years Cardiac Sonographer experience

    + Graduate of IAC approved Echocardiography Technology program

    Registration/Certification:

    + RDCS/RCS Certification

    + BLS certification

     

    Physical/Environmental Requirements

     

    This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.

    Pay Range:

    $41.53 - $68.35

     

    This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
