Description
PeaceHealth is seeking candidates for a Hospital Scheduler position in Surgery Administration at Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. This is a full-time 1.00 FTE, Day shift position working five 8-hour shifts each week. In this role you'll schedule surgical and other medical procedures, prepare charts, and may also facilitate work schedules and daily staffing assignments for nurses and technologists.
The wage range for this position is $21.59 – $32.39, rate of pay based on related experience. We also offer a full benefits package with medical, dental, vision, life, Paid Time Off, a retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, and more.
Position Details:
+ Scheduling of surgical procedures and other procedures (e.g. Surgery, Imaging, Respiratory Therapy, GI, etc.)
+ Prepare charts to ensure operational efficiency
+ Interfaces with nursing units, physician's offices and other hospitals.
+ Collects information related to scheduling procedures, efficiently enters case into various scheduling systems and coordinates the procedure time.
+ Creates and maintains daily schedule by arranging cases to ensure maximum effectiveness of physician and assistants by completing edits in a timely manner. Identifies potential resource conflicts and works with leadership to resolve.
+ Monitors cancellation of procedures and manages information into database.
+ May coordinate with PFS to inform patient of financial responsibility, including prior authorization of procedures.
+ May be responsible for gathering documentation and assembling patient surgical/procedural charts using standard configuration methodology.
+ Performs computer data entry into multiple computer-based applications and successfully retrieves patient documents. Communicate effectively with physicians offices to ensure accurate scheduling and retrieval of chart documents.
+ Coordinates scheduling of resources and equipment to ensure both caregivers and equipment are in place for surgeries and or procedures to maximize efficiencies in the providers schedules and streamline of patient flow.
+ Central point of communication referring physicians' offices, system patients financial services, and internal customers utilizing their services. Receives all incoming phone calls related to all aspects of scheduling and coordinating of patients and resources. Interface with nursing units, physicians, community offices, and other medical facilities to coordinate appointments and secure resources necessary for patient care on the date of service.
+ Supports patients and families in understanding the course of pre-operative preparations and testing.
+ Coordinates patient flow through the department.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
+ Preferred: College Coursework - Medical Technology
+ Preferred: Business School or college level secretarial training or equivalent, with course work in office management
Experience
+ Office/Clerical work experience required
+ Minimum of 2 years Preferred: General office/secretarial experience
+ Preferred: Scheduling and health records experience in a hospital setting
Skills
+ Good communication skill both oral and written (Required)
+ Excellent customer service and clear and concise telephone skills (Required)
+ Must have the ability to work efficiently and responsibly in an environment with multiple demands and time frames, with minimal supervision. (Required)
+ Scheduling/staffing background strongly recommended in a healthcare environment. Effective skills in problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, organizing and disseminating information with previous demonstrated positive outcomes. (Required)
+ Must have a working knowledge of staffing office systems and customer service. (Required)
+ Proficient keyboarding and computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office applications. (Required)
+ Medical Terminology (Preferred)
+ Knowledge of CareCast, Imagecast, Outlook, Word, Picis, and Excel (Preferred)
Working Conditions
+ Consistently operates computer and other office equipment.
+ Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
+ Sedentary work.
+ Predominantly operates in an office environment.
+ Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
+ The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
