POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications & Advancement Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing Hired’s external communications, supporting media relations work, planning and executing fundraising events, including Hired’s annual fundraising breakfast held each spring, and coordinating fundraising appeals to individual donors for the annual fund and the Abundance Fund.
This role serves as key liaison with consultants and external vendors to plan and support print materials, graphic design, website development, and event-related needs. This position serves as a cross-functional specialist, working closely with Hired’s Advancement Team, Advancement Committee, program managers, and senior leadership.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications (35%)
Manage communication calendars and deliver regular communications to external and internal stakeholders via email, newsletters, social media, and print.
Keep the website current and engaging; coordinate updates with staff and consultants.
Create and implement social media plans and gather stories, photos, and videos for marketing/fundraising, coordinating efforts with the development coordinator.
Support program marketing by creating/updating flyers, web updates, and ads, including completing basic design work.
Use data insights to improve communication strategies.
Write and edit content for publications, press releases, reports, and other materials.
Coordinate participant photoshoots, identify clients, coordinate with vendors, and manage all event details.
Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms and maintain a positive public image.
Individual Giving Campaigns (25%)
Plan and execute annual donor campaigns and appeals.
Develop content and materials to increase donor engagement and giving.
Prepare reports on fundraising activities and outcomes for internal stakeholders and board members.
Develop and manage direct mail appeals and other fundraising communications.
Fundraising Event Coordination (35%)
Lead planning and execution of annual fundraising events, including logistics, vendors, volunteers, and budgets.
Work with leadership to secure sponsorships and recognize sponsors.
Build relationships with donors and sponsors; send thank-you communications and updates.
Track fundraising progress and prepare reports.
Plan and implement other targeted donor engagement events as needed.
Assist in the setup and breakdown of events, including managing volunteers and staff during the event.
Manage relationships with donors, sponsors, and table hosts/volunteers, ensuring effective communication and engagement.
Prepare and send personalized communications, including thank-you letters and updates on fundraising progress.
Support Agency Community Engagement & Outreach (5%)
Actively engage with the agency’s program outreach and recruitment team, RecruitConnect.
Support outreach efforts and prepare materials for recruitment.
Help staff develop skills for partnership building and participant engagement.
Build relationships with employer partners to support advancement goals.
### Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Minimum qualifications: High school diploma, previous experience working in charitable/non-profit fundraising, including individual giving and fundraising event planning. Experience in communications, including social media, preferred. Advanced computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required.
### Minimum Experience Required
Solid ability to write persuasive and compelling material, with strong experience with co-writing and writing in brand tone/voice.
Strong project management and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple, high-priority projects simultaneously.
Self-driven and strong work ethic capable of thriving in a fast-paced work environment.
Proactive communication skills with a high attention to detail.
Skilled collaborator able to serve as a reliable, consistent team player.
Adaptive and agile, able to learn quickly and apply insights to consistently elevate work quality.
Strong relationship management and customer service skills
Proficiency with Microsoft applications and donor or customer relations management (CRM) software, such as NEON One, Salesforce, or similar.
Previous experience with design work and related software, such as In Design, the Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva or similar.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding organization, client, and donor-related information.

3-5+ years’ experience in fundraising, special events, and communications preferred.
