Position Summary: The Child Care Worker provides stability to the children and families of the Therapeutic After School Program (TASP) by providing a flexible response to the clinical and childcare needs of the program. The Child Care Worker will function as an integral part of the TASP team.
The role involves working with a group of up to 10 children. All of the children are at risk of placement outside the home, and our mission is to support them in a preventive and stabilizing capacity. Additionally, many of our kids have a traumatic background and may not respond to traditional methods of childcare work. Because of this, staff should expect to encounter challenging behaviors and be prepared to respond with patience and professionalism.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide safe and responsible transport for youth, families and other Children's Home affiliates. Transportation responsibilities may be as much as three to four hours per day.
+ Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with the children and their families that are responsive to their needs.
+ Promote growth of the parent-child relationship as indicated by that plan, as well as the agency's philosophy of family centered practice.
+ Maintain good relationships through collaboration and advocacy on client's behalf with DSS, community agencies, schools, staff and other service providers.
+ Complete required reports and documentation in a timely manner, including: progress notes, treatment planning, case specific materials, Connections Case Management System, etc.
+ Use family-centered practice approaches in service delivery and case planning in treatment, permanency planning and discharge.
+ Continuously evaluate the strengths and needs of children and family to provide appropriate planning. Promote and guide the development of enhanced coping, socialization, parenting and independent living skills through the treatment planning process.
+ Provide for the safety and well-being of at-risk children, through the judicious use of discipline, therapeutic crisis intervention, CARE principles, and supervision. Effectively communicate all behavioral, emotional, and medical needs to the Director or the assigned Case Manager.
+ Provide for the overall growth and development of each child through instructing, counseling and direction in matters of personal conduct, hygiene, appearance, social skills, school, routines, and work habits. Foster the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of each child.
+ Provide for the recreational needs of at-risk children both within and away from the program site.
+ Foster the social, vocational and cultural needs and interests of each child.
Requirements
Education:
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required
+ Associate's or Bachelor's Degree is preferred
Experience:
+ 1 year experience working with children and/or families in a healthcare or educational setting is required
+ Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment required
