**Hours:** Part-time, including rotating weekends/holidays
**Status:** Non-Exempt
**Salary Range:** $18/hr - $29/hr (variable with experience, certifications, & licensure)

Summary:
The Veterinary Technician performs technical and routine animal care, which includes preparing for surgeries, giving injectable, oral, and topical medications, and cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures. The Veterinary Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics and treatments, surgical preparation, pre- and post-operation monitoring, foster support, rabies certificates, and general cleaning of the Hafeman Animal Care Center (Vet Clinic).
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Examine, vaccinate, and administer preventive care upon intake.
+ Administer medications, conduct exams, and provide first aid.
+ Maintain medical records and document physical exams (paper & electronic).
+ Perform humane euthanasia per protocol.
+ Assist in medical and surgical procedures, including restraint, anesthesia, surgical support, nail trims, microchips, clipping, intubation, surgical prep, & anesthesia monitering.
+ Conduct diagnostic testing (fecals, SNAP tests, urinalysis, & cytology).
+ Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and storage of medical equipment, surgical packs, and general cleaning of Vet Center.
Additional Duties:
+ Provide compassionate service to customers, visitors, & volunteers.
+ Answer inquiries about DRHS policies and procedures.
+ Answering phone calls, performing general office duties, data entry into PetPoint, filing, copying, faxing, managing and maintaining clinic supplies.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
+ Associate' degree in Veterinary Technology and credentialed in Iowa.
+ Knowledge of animal healthcare, vaccinations, euthanasia, and handling/restraint.
+ Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
+ Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
+ Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Work Environment:
The Veterinary Technician will encounter regular exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste, and high noise levels.
