Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products division is hiring an **Engineering Manager** managing the Test & Development Team at the Clayton Machine Development Center in Clayton, NC.
**Role Summary:** In this role you will lead a team of approximately 20 Test Engineers, Lab Instrumentation Engineers and Expert Operators. The team is responsible for planning and conducting tests on components and machines related to analysis, validation and troubleshooting of product design. You will address complex system- and component-level technical challenges, ensure the timely, accurate and cost-effective execution of tests, and consistently meet the expectations of both internal and external customers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering Design teams, Prove Design, and Endurance, manage project timelines, and contribute to the strategic direction of the division.
What You’ll Do (Job Duties)
+ **Leadership and Team Development:**
+ Provide coaching and mentorship to enhance team members' technical expertise and leadership capabilities. Establish clear goals and effectively manage team performance.
+ Promote a safe work environment and encourage constructive resolution of team conflicts.
+ **Project Management:**
+ Define and manage project timelines based on technical expertise, team capabilities, and available resources. Ensure timely and quality delivery.
+ Set and execute strategic direction at the section level. Manage operating expense budgets and contribute to long-term roadmaps to meet customer expectations.
+ **Technical Direction:**
+ Provide expert technical direction to the team.
+ Make informed decisions that influence product performance, process efficiency, warranty, customer satisfaction, and technological advancement. Collaborate across divisions, business units, and external partners to drive impactful outcomes.
+ **Communication and Customer Engagement:**
+ Communicate effectively with internal teams, leadership, customers, and suppliers and translate customer and management feedback into actionable tasks for team.
+ Engage extensively with customers ensuring alignment and satisfaction.
What You Have (Core Skills)
+ **Bachelor’s degree** in engineering or related fields.
+ **Planning** Tactical, Strategic: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
+ **Effective Communications** Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
+ **Technical Excellence** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
+ **Customer/Market Focus** Understanding of the importance of remaining aware of shifting market priorities and ability to respond to internal and external customer needs in a manner that consistently adds value.
+ **Managing People** Knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.
Top Candidates Will Also Have
+ Experience as an established, successful leader with demonstration of your capability to lead, motivate and influence directly and indirectly.
+ Prior team leadership and people development skills.
+ Previous experience in testing, design, validation, or quality.

+ Work location: CMDC, Clayton, NC
+ Domestic relocation assistance IS available for this role
+ Travel: 5-10% as needed
+ This position requires 5 days per week in the office (M-F)

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
