    Performs a variety of administrative and supervisory work under the guidance of the Aquatics Supervisor at the Venetian Pool to include: safety, aquatic programs, personnel and maintenance of pool and facility. Supervises staff, volunteers and contractors. Oversee the safety of pool patrons and responds to medical emergencies. Exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment under the general guidance of the Venetian Pool Aquatics Supervisor.

     

    Job Duties and Responsibilities

     

    The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

     

    Supervises daily activities at the Venetian Pool and oversees all aquatic programs within the Department.

     

    Oversees the safety of pool patrons. Performs water rescues and lifeguard functions in emergencies or when otherwise required. Administers emergency care and treatment to injured or ill patrons. Inspects lifeguard and pool safety equipment such as oxygen supplements, AED units, first aid kits and other safety equipment to ensure proper working order.

     

    Certifies lifeguard staff, teaches swimming and life safety classes, water exercise classes, and other water related programming.

     

    Supervises, schedules, trains, evaluates and disciplines employees at the Venetian Pool. Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations.

     

    Oversees the general maintenance of the Venetian Pool grounds and vessel. Ensures that the maintenance is of the highest standard in terms of cleanliness and safety. Ensures that the grounds, facilities and equipment are properly maintained through regular inspections. Acquires and coordinates services needed from other City departments.

     

    Maintains and operates pool drain and fill pumps, circulation pumps, chlorination and acid feeders . Oversees the application of chemicals to ensure the pool is disinfected, clean and maintained at the proper chemical levels as mandated by local, state and federal guidelines. Detects and resolves maintenance problems.

     

    Ensures that patrons are being helped by courteous and professional staff. Provides information to patrons regarding rules, fees, and regulations. Ensures collection of fees, deposits money collected and reconciles receipts and invoices. Resolves guest complaints and admission problems.

     

    Assists in organizing and administering aquatic and recreational activities and programs. Assists in the planning of special events, swim lessons, spring and summer camps. Supervises after hours activities as required.

     

    Assists in the management of Venetian Pool concessions; ensures compliance with health and safety standards, trains food handlers, schedules equipment maintenance, maintains inventory and purchases supplies as needed.

     

    Assists the Supervisor in the permitting process for Venetian Pool filming, private rentals and special events. Verifies insurance compliance; oversees event scheduling, invoicing and collection of payments.

     

    Assist the Supervisor in developing new programs and enhances current programs to insure the highest level of customer satisfaction.

     

    Assists in the formation of Venetian Pool policies and procedures; performs administrative duties to include maintaining records and files ordering supplies, preparing correspondence, answering phones and emails and prepares daily, monthly and annual reports.

     

    Ensures compliance with local, state and federal pool operation procedures and regulations.

     

    Conforms to all City regulations, policies, procedures, and safety rules.

     

    Meets with organizations associated with aquatics and the Venetian Pool.

     

    Acts as Venetian Pool supervisor when required.

     

    Performs other related tasks as required.

    Qualifications

    Graduation from a four year college or university with a bachelor's degree is required. A degree in recreation, leisure service, education, physical education or related field is preferred.

     

    Minimum two years’ experience as a lifeguard or in aquatics.

     

    Minimum one year experience supervising aquatic facilities and/or public recreation facilities.

     

    Jeff Ellis & Associates (E&A) ILTP Lifeguard License required. E&A Instructor’s License preferred.

     

    Must have Lifeguard, CPR/First Aid/AED certification.

     

    Must obtain pool operator’s license such as an AFO or CPO within the first six months of employment.

     

    Food Manager’s License required.

     

    CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional) preferred.

     

    Membership in (FRPA) Florida and/or (NRPA) National Parks and Recreation Association(s) preferred.

     

    A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.

     

    HOLIDAYS: 16 days including 3 floating days.

     

    SICK LEAVE: 110 hours annually.

     

    ANNUAL LEAVE: 94 hours in the first year of employment, increasing up to 210 after 25 years. Employees must take 40 hours of annual leave each year.

     

    BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: 5 or 10 days for the death of a family member in accordance with the City's Personnel Rules & Regulations.

     

    HEALTH INSURANCE: Fully paid by the City (HMO Select). Coverage becomes effective 1st of month following 30 days. Employee may purchase coverage for eligible dependents at a cost of approximately 50% of the premium.

     

    DENTAL INSURANCE: Available at a cost to all employees through payroll deduction.

     

    LIFE INSURANCE: Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment equal to 1 x annual salary (up to $200,000) fully paid by the City.

     

    VOLUNTARY BENEFITS: Several plans are available, such as Short Term Disability, Life Insurance and Critical Illness policies through payroll deductions.

     

    LEGAL SERVICES: Legal Service plan available at a cost to all employees through payroll deductions.

     

    POST EMPLOYMENT HEALTH PLAN (PEHP): The City deposits $950 annually into an individual account for each employee. Monies may be used to pay premiums or medical expenses after retirement.

     

    DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Employees may defer a portion of their pre-tax salary in the 457 Deferred Compensation Program.

     

    TUITION REIMBURSEMENT: $2,000 per semester ($6,000 maximum annually) as per the City's Rules and Regulations.

     

    CELL PHONE: Cell phone provided at a monthly cost of $20.00, if required by department.

    RECREATIONAL USE: Employee, spouse and immediate family members seventeen (17) years of age and under are entitled to the benefits below:

    - Venetian Pool – No charge for daily admission.

     

    - Tennis Centers – No charge for daily court fees

     

    - Youth Center – 50% off residential rates for memberships and 25% off camps and other programs.

    Golf at Biltmore & Granada:

    - Monday through Friday – no charge

    - Saturday, Sunday and Holidays:

    - Before Noon – Twilight fees apply

     

    - After Noon – No charge

     

    (cart fees apply at all times)

    PENSION:

    City Retirement Plan - Mandatory employee contribution of 10 % of salary; Vesting period is 10 years.

    Defined Contribution - 401a - Contribution by City of 7% of employee base annual salary. Vesting period 5 years. Employee not required to contribute.
