Job Summary and Qualifications
The SPD Director, under the general supervision of the VP of Operations, assumes administrative and technical responsibility, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for specified functions in Sterile Processing Department (SPD). The Director is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising all functions of SPD and manages all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment. In collaboration with the VP of Operations, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of quality of services provided in these areas by all levels of technicians. Actively participates in the selection, evaluation, counseling, staff development and termination of unit personnel. Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the staff with a focus on promoting clinical competency. Responsible for assisting with preparation and planning of budget needs for SPD. Works closely with Clinical Coordinators from above mentioned patient care services as well as with professional employees and non-professional employees of the hospital utilizing SPD services.
What you will do in the role:
+ Maintains established sterile processing procedures in cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, and storing of sterile items, utilizing aseptic techniques, in collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services.
+ Coordinates time requests and schedules for staff in collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, thereby assuring availability of appropriate staff to meet the needs of OR , L&D, ER, the Nurseries and Endoscopy.
+ Documents and maintains all records and files required by the department, hospital, TJC, Medicare and OSHA.
+ Practices safety standards and uses approved forms in reporting accidents and unusual occurrences.
+ Plans for economy and control of supplies, equipment, and instruments and oversees proper care and use of same.
+ Arranges for repairs of all instruments and patient care equipment and obtains use of loaner equipment, as appropriate, 90-95% of the time as evidenced by feedback from OR Materials Manager and Clinical Coordinators of OR/ER/Endo/L&D/Nurseries.
+ In collaboration with the Director, participates in the budget formulation and control for Surgical Services with particular emphasis on maintaining appropriate surgical equipment and supplies in accordance with the needs of the Medical Staff and the Hospital.
+ Participates in cost containment programs as applicable to services provided.
+ Demonstrates familiarity with capabilities of information management system (Meditech).
+ Actively participates in appropriate Department and Hospital committees and ensures that SPD personnel are involved in this process.
+ Assesses need for and assists in implementation of staff development programs to enhance professional growth of personnel.
What qualifications you will need:
+ (CRCST) Certified Registered Central Service Technician required
+ Bachelors Degree required
+ Prior Central/Sterile Processing leadership experience required. One year in OR setting mandatory
