POSITION OVERVIEW

WORKDAYS & HOURS: M – F, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.*

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Key Responsibilities:
+ Perform a variety of engineering activities to identify, evaluate, manage, maintain, and rehabilitate sanitary sewer collection system sewer lines, manholes and laterals.
+ Provide technical analysis and information to develop solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency of analysis for repair/rehabilitation of the wastewater collection system.
+ Perform on-site project inspections, investigations, discussions with contractors, evaluate manufacturer’s information, etc. to determine solutions for challenging sanitary problems in a timely fashion.
+ Evaluate proposals and make recommendations for projects.
+ Respond to inquiries by departments, consultants, agencies and public.
+ Attend meetings and conferences. Participate in special projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier II Level.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
Must obtain a Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within seven years from hire date as an Engineer-In-Training with the City of Houston.
PREFERENCES
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of Wastewater Collection system rehabilitation, design, operation and maintenance.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
