The Colas Group operates internationally in all aspects of transport infrastructure. As part of the global organisation, Colas Ireland is primarily involved the distribution of bitumen products, emulsion and emulsifier manufacturing, and the provision of specialist road maintenance services on the national, regional and local road network. In Ireland Colas operates from 14 locations across the island of Ireland.
Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a Lab Technician to join our Chemoran team in Oranmore, Co. Galway. The Chemoran division has been operating in Ireland for over 70 years, producing specialised chemical products for the Irish road industry. Chemoran also develops, produces and supplies a wide range of bitumen emulsifiers and additives to customers around the globe. Research & Development of new products is at the core of our strategy and we are looking to recruit and train a graduate in Chemistry into the role of Lab Technician. Main Responsibilities
+ Conduct chemical, bitumen and bitumen emulsion testing to defined specifications and test procedures.
+ Record, analyse and communicate test results to the Technical Manager, plant foreman and other team members.
+ Participate in product development work and provide technical support for Chemoran, the Colas group and external customers.
+ Contribute to the development of new test methods and laboratory best practice.
+ Ensure equipment is calibrated and standardised according to schedule.
+ Work with the Technical Manager to maintain an adequate inventory of small equipment, chemicals and other laboratory supplies.
+ Understand and comply with Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality systems of the Colas Ireland group.
+ Perform other general tasks and appropriate duties as required.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, are essential. You should be a quick learner with good analytical and problem‑solving abilities, and have strong organisational skills with the ability to multi‑task. You will be self‑motivated, able to work on your own initiative and as an effective team player.
