    Under general supervision, the Graphics Supervisor plans, organizes, coordinates and leads the SFO’s graphic design team. Oversees project execution, quality control, client communication and is responsible for maintaining the SFO brand standards, meeting deadlines, staying within budget while assisting in hiring, training and the annual performance evaluation of staff. Performs complex illustrator and graphics design work. And supervises a staff that may include illustrators, graphic designers, web designers and graphic aides.

    + Communicate and collaborate with clients to develop creative concepts, coordinate efforts, review progress, schedule timelines, and assign design projects.

    + Supervise and train the design team, provide creative direction, and conduct annual performance evaluations.

    + Create graphic designs and illustrations while ensuring consistency with the SFO brand across web pages, presentations, signage, publications, internal communications, newsletters, brochures, reports, and marketing campaigns.

    + Communicate and present design and brand reviews with the design team, brand manager and relevant departments, organizations, and clients for final approval.

    + Proof and resolve any issues related to final print quality or digital content.

    + Prepare and package design files for printing or web use.

    + Perform other functions as outlined in the 5330 Graphics Supervisor (https://careers.sf.gov/classifications/?classCode=5330&setId=COMMN) job classification.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:

    Six (6) years of professional experience in illustration and graphic art design, including web design.

    Substitution:

    An associate in arts degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in graphic art or design may substitute for two years of the above experience; 30 semester units/45 quarter units may substitute for one year of experience.

     

    License: Possession of a valid driver's license.

     

    One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring:

    + One (1) or more years of leading or supervising a team.

    + Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

    + Experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite tools (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) to design, edit, and prepare visual materials for print and digital.

    + Experience implementing design principles, including typography, color theory, and layout best practices.

    + Strong oral and written communication skills.

    + Strong organizational and project management skills

    Selection Procedures

    After application submission, candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process, which includes the following:

    Supplemental Questionnaire Evaluation (Behavioral Consistency Questionnaire - Weight 100%)

    Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire. The Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to measure the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.  All candidates’ responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire are subject to verification. All relevant experience, education and/or training must be included in the responses in order to be reviewed in the rating process.

     

    A passing score on the Supplemental Questionnaire must be achieved in order to be placed/ranked on the eligible list. Candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

     

    Note: Only those applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be notified of the exact date, time and/or place for the examinations. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed to advance through all of the steps in the selection process.

     

    Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance: Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1, every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.

     

    Eligible List/Score Report: A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

     

    The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be six months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.

    Certification: The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of Ten (10). The hiring department may administer additional position-specific selection procedures prior to making final hiring decisions.
