Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Northfield E&S underwrites property, casualty, and specialty insurance for the excess and surplus (E&S) marketplace. As an Associate Underwriting Officer, you will be a critical bridge between underwriting strategy and operational execution, working primarily with Northfield Contract Binding while collaborating across Northfield Brokerage to ensure consistency, quality, and continuous improvement throughout our binding authority business.
This role offers a unique blend of technical underwriting expertise and organizational impact. You'll develop and maintain underwriting guidelines that shape how we assess risk, serve as the primary liaison between the BI Centralized Quality Assurance (QA) team and field operations to drive compliance and corrective actions, and act as a referral point for complex underwriting decisions. You'll also leverage emerging technology and AI—working closely with business partners throughout BI and the broader Enterprise—to innovate how we create and deliver underwriting content, ensuring our underwriters and general agents have the tools and guidance they need to operate effectively within authority and appetite.
What Will You Do?
+ Aid in assessing, recommending, and implementing underwriting strategies and practices in support of profit and growth objectives for assigned group.
+ Support successful underwriting execution through individual risk and/or portfolio CUREs as well as through the evaluation of underwriter proficiency and underwriting quality.
+ Contribute to the development of key underwriting capabilities and best practices through coaching and trainings while educating underwriters on strategy and guidelines to enhance efficiency and effectiveness for assigned group.
+ Assist in monitoring trends, emerging issues, and underwriting results for assigned book of business. Partner with underwriting leadership to take action, as needed.
+ May manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
+ Bachelor’s degree.
+ Six or more years of commercial underwriting experience with experience in Excess & Surplus underwriting.
+ Knowledge of risk appetite and risk selection, Excess & Surplus lines products, as well as the regulatory environment and local insurance marketplace.
+ Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with risk appetite.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and influence others.
+ CPCU designation.
What is a Must Have?
+ Five years of commercial underwriting experience.
