    The Nevada County Probation Departmentis seeking a Supervising Deputy Probation Officer to complete our outstanding team! Join us and contribute to our community by supporting the courts and fostering positive change in the individuals we serve.

     

    The Supervising Deputy Probation Officer (SDPO) position is a leadership role in the Probation Department and is the first-level supervisor in the Deputy Probation Officer series.

    As a SDPO, you will be involved in:

    + Mentor, train, and guide deputy probation officers in the implementation of evidence-based interventions.

    + Review sentencing recommendations to the Courts.

    + Support deputy probation officers in the rehabilitation of probationers.

    + Supervise and evaluate assigned officers in the performance of their duties.

     

    The ideal SDPO candidate will be passionate about the Probation Department’s mission, a collaborative participant in department projects, and a motivating force to help the team achieve its mission.

    Education and Experience Required

     

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminology or one of the behavioral or social sciences or a related field.

    AND

    Three years of journey-level probation casework in a parole or probation program at a level equivalent to Nevada County’s classification of Deputy Probation Officer II or III.

     

    Licenses and Certificates

     

    Unless previously completed, within one year of hire, must successfully pass applicable Corrections Standards Authority approved “Core” training and a law enforcement procedures (PC 832) course on search and seizure procedures certified by the California Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.

     

    Completion of Corrections Standards Authority approved “Supervisor Core” course within one year of hire.

    Retirement

     

    The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and also provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
