Responsibilities:
The Student Transitions & Success Program Director is an experienced higher education professional who develops the foundation for a new Student Transitions & Success Office—an academic unit that will oversee, coordinate, and standardize student time away experience (pertaining to leaves, withdrawals, returns and readmissions) and re-entry to the University. This position will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive framework to support students taking or returning from a leave of absence or withdrawal. Responsibilities include defining the office’s structure and processes; coordinating individualized student support plans in collaboration with campus partners; and managing communication and reengagement for students during their time away and upon reentry. The role will also develop programming to assist students’ transitions, foster cross-campus collaboration, and establish systems for tracking, data collection, and assessment. Through process development, communication, stakeholder engagement, and ongoing evaluation, this position will help create a cohesive, student-centered approach to time away and return processes.
The role is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of existing practices and policies, engaging key stakeholders, and developing the structures, policies, and resources necessary to launch the office. This role requires expertise in academic policy, case management, and organizational design in higher education. This role is positioned within Academic Excellence with scope across all schools of the University, with an initial focus on undergraduate students. This position reports to the Interim Assistant Vice Provost, Strategy and Operations, through the Office of the Senior Vice Provost of Academic Excellence and operates with the autonomy and authority necessary to implement processes and uphold university policies consistently.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Framework Development
+ Outline the role of the office, future Director and office staff in providing individualized student support plans (clinical, academic, financial, social).
+ Recommend processes for documentation, provider communication, appeals, and review panels.
+ Define protocols for working with international students (visa documentation, I-20 letters).
Student Support & Case Management
+ Interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, and other members of the University community in order to collect and share information, make referrals, handle challenging situations, and organize program activities. Regularly manages highly sensitive matters with the University Community.
+ Working with CAS advisors coordinates the development of individualized Student Success Plans for students during their time away, monitors progress, and assists students during the transition back to the University
+ Coordinate communications with students during their time away to ensure students are proactively addressing the difficulties they experienced while they were enrolled
+ Manages the reengagement process for students
+ Works collaboratively with offices across the university to best assist students taking and returning from a Leave of Absence or Withdrawn status
+ Facilitates student referrals to Financial Aid, Bursar, University Health Services, University Counseling Center, Academic Departments, and other relevant offices
+ Assist students and families who need help navigating campus resources.
Engagement & Programming
+ Develops and implements programming for students who are reentering the University to support their transition, build community and ensure connection to campus resources.
+ Implements initiatives directed toward educating and supporting students considering time away from the University.
+ Develops program evaluations, evaluates data to identify trends, unmet needs and opportunities to support students through transition.
Process & Structure Development
+ Recommend structures, lines of authority, and decision-making processes.
+ Map current policies and procedures across leave and withdrawal processes.
+ Identify inconsistencies, redundancies, and barriers for students and the institution.
+ Clarify tuition reimbursement and financial procedures related to time away.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
+ Convene and consult with campus partners (Registrar, Bursar, Center for Advising Services, Financial Aid, ISO, Housing/Dining, UHS, UCC, CARE, Risk Management, ODIR, International Student Academic Affairs, Admissions, etc.).
+ Establish a framework for cross-campus collaboration (e.g., change of status, behavioral assessment teams, crisis response) to support students around time away (preparing for/during/reentry).
+ Recommend structures for faculty and staff training and communication.
Data, Tracking & Assessment
+ Recommend or design a web-based system for tracking time away and return processes.
+ Develop protocols for data collection and reporting to identify trends and inform administrative decision-making.
+ Propose an annual evaluation and feedback process to measure effectiveness and student satisfaction.
+ Monitor and reports trends to share with AE leadership as appropriate
Other
+ Stay current with processes, technology, and computer skills relevant to advising and engage in relevant professional development activities, which may include: workshops, attendance at conferences, membership in professional organizations, etc.
+ Represents the Time Away Office on University committees and groups to address problems and maximize student success outcomes.
+ Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Masters degree in higher education administration, counseling, law, or related field, doctorate preferred.
+ Minimum of 7 years of experience of effective leadership and management in student success and support initiatives and services in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (preferred)
+ Demonstrated expertise in academic advising, student support, policy development, governance, and compliance.
+ Experience designing or managing student leave and return processes in higher education.
+ Strong background in student case management and crisis response in a university setting.
+ Familiarity with data management systems, student records, and FERPA.
+ Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
+ Prior consulting or project-based leadership experience in higher education strongly preferred.
