    Summary

    Operates, services, and conducts diagnostics of vehicles and assists in the building and development of prototypes upon request. Provides technical support for test programs and test trips. Maintains responsibility for the installation and removal of test, data collecting, and computing equipment. Maintains cleanliness, organization, and safety in the shop area.

     

    This is a mid-level technician position that requires significant applicable experience, versatile abilities, and certification in many Subaru training courses.

     

    Under the guidance of Master Technician and manager, the Senior Technician performs vehicle modifications with clear and consistent procedures. At this level, only critical tasks need to be checked by more senior technicians.

     

    Tasks are assigned by manager or supervisor, although the Senior Technician may need to communicate with vehicle owners and project managers for specific tasks.

    Primary Responsibilities

    + Performs moderately-complex tasks such as part replacement (engine; transmission; drivetrain; suspension; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning [HVAC]; wire harness creation, etc.) and vehicle maintenance in the field as well as routine tasks such as:

    + Oil changes (engine, differential, transmission).

    + Brakes.

    + Tire changes.

    + Battery replacement.

    + Wheel alignment.

    + Basic diagnostics.

    + Shop organization.

    + Shop cleaning.

    + Shop restocking.

    + Vehicle cleaning.

    + Sensor installation.

    + Parts ordering.

    + Refueling.

    + Test preparation (not including vehicle modification).

    + Inspects, operates, maintains, diagnoses, repairs, and modifies vehicles as needed by Engineering department.

    + Evaluates, diagnoses, and reports on problems and deficiencies of vehicles.

    + Prepares and operates vehicles as necessary for testing and evaluation activities, including the installation and operation of test equipment. Carries out the extraction and replacement of vehicle components for testing and evaluation.

    + Reports findings and results of inspections and tests to relevant engineers. Provides constructive feedback upon request to engineers in North American Subaru, Inc. Research and Development (NASI R&D) and Subaru Corporation (SBR) in the areas of driving dynamics, advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), fuel economy, interior packaging, and human factors.

    + Works independently on vehicles with optional checks from more senior technicians. Performs tasks as requested by supervisor/manager. Maintains responsibility for mentoring NASI Technicians, checking a portion of their tasks and verifying correct completion.

    + Maintains a safe work environment for technicians and engineers.

    + Investigates training opportunities to improve skills and acquire certifications. Attends at least one (1) training per year to increase skillset or remain current in certifications.

    Qualifications

    Education

    + H.S. Diploma (Required)

    Work Experience

    + At least 4-6 years (Required)

     

    Professional Licenses and Certifications

     

    + Forklift certification (Required).

    + Subaru Technician Training Level 2–5 in Skill Group 1–5 and 13 (Required).

     

    Skills

     

    + Mechanical intuition.

    + Proficiency with automotive hand tools, power tools, and machinery (tire balancer, alignment rack, lift, etc.).

    + Proficiency with metal and woodworking hand tools and power tools.

    + Ability to safely work with corrosive and other hazardous chemicals.

    + Welding ability (Preferred).

    + Computer Numerical Control (CNC) mill operation ability (Preferred).

    + Adaptability: Ability to work with new equipment and sensors. Ability to switch schedules and tasks mid-job based on priority level.

    + Ability to communicate effectively with managers and engineers.

    + Ability to closely follow the correct chain of command.

    + Self-motivated.

    + Ability to remain levelheaded and personable, even in stressful situations.

     

    Work Environment

     

    + Office Location: NASI Michigan Van Buren Office, 50255 Michigan Ave, Belleville, MI 4811

    + Hybrid Role: Hybrid Role - Remote work 2 days per week (after 90 days) [Wednesdays & Fridays]

    + Required Travel: 5%

     

    Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $57,500 - $80,100 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Additionally, this role is bonus-eligible, with a target bonus percentage that provides an opportunity to earn even more based on your performance. (Internal Job Grade: P1)
