    Overview of the role:

    The Manager of Elder Rights is a mission-driven leader responsible for overseeing a portfolio of programs that protect the rights, safety, and well-being of older adults. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for core programs including Senior Medicare Patrol, Adult Protective Services, Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Legal Assistance, and other signature initiatives that enhance and expand Older Americans Act-funded services. These include programs such as the Legal Risk Detector, the Adult Protective Services Fatality Review Team, and emerging opportunities to secure funding to address scams and financial exploitation.

     

    With a strong foundation in program management, the Manager ensures programs are implemented effectively, remain compliant with funding and regulatory requirements, and achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes. The role is responsible for setting clear expectations, providing coaching and support, and holding team members accountable for high-quality performance while fostering professional growth.

     

    The Manager of Elder Rights works collaboratively across the organization and with community partners, funders, and policymakers to strengthen service delivery, advance continuous improvement, and expand the reach and impact of elder rights programs. This position is well-suited for a leader who brings both operational rigor and a deep commitment to nonprofit service and advocacy for older adults

    What are some of the day to day specifics:

    + Provide strategic direction and innovative oversight for the SMP and Elder Rights programs.

    + Develop and guide a high-performing team, fostering professional development and effective program execution.

    + Oversee Elder Rights initiatives- Adult Protective Services contractors, Fatality Review, implementation and training of new programs

    + Oversee the Statewide SMP- including partners, planning, grant writing, outreach and inquiries

    + Lead the expansion of programs under the Elder Rights umbrella

    + Operational responsibility working with partners in Grants Management, Finance and Marketing

    + Work with community partners to enhance relationships, service delivery and connectedness

    Required Experience:

    Recommended Experience and Qualification for this role:

    + Education: Bachelor's degree in social work, social sciences, planning, gerontology, community health, public health or a related field. Demonstrated experience performing job responsibilities gained through professional work or other defined experiences. Advanced degree beyond bachelor's (MSW) is desirable.

    + Experience: At least 3 years of experience in social services programming and planning preferably in aging or related area. At least 2 years experience leading and supervising, preferably social service or social work teams.

    + Certification(s): Illinois Adult Protective Services Supervisor or Case Worker, Ombudsman Level 2, LSW or LCSW is desirable.

    + Program development experience and experience coordinating and conducting training preferred

    + Ability to develop strong working relationships with community partners

    + Strong verbal and written communication, including presentation skills

    + Ability to prepare written reports, grant applications and position papers

    + Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite Office programs including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel

    + Strong technical, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills

    + Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, working autonomously and with others

    + Ability to travel within suburban Cook County on a regular basis, and travel outside of Cook County on an regular basis
