Summary About the Position: The duty of the position is with Directorate of Training Sustainment (DOTS), U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Benning, Georgia 31905. This position is located in the Supply & Services Division. Responsibilities Operate gas or diesel powered cargo vehicles to transport ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components. Physically handle munitions for movement and in loading and unloading carriers. Operate forklift to lift and move loads weighing less than 10,000 pounds Operate gas or diesel powered cargo vehicles to transport ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components. Inspect ammunition and explosive items. Inspects live ammunition for dents, loose primers and cracks. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. his position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. This position requires you to possess a current, valid, Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with with airbrakes tanker and HAZMAT endorsement. (A copy of your license MUST be attached) Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Ammunition Handler (Motor Vehicle Operator/ Fork Lift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex ammunition and explosive duties at a Ammunition Supply Point. I am skilled in transporting a variety of ammunition, explosives, special weapons and their components to various locations on the military installation and over public roadways. I am also skilled in properly handle, renovate and inspect ammunition for correct conditions, packaging, markings, safety precautions, and use. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading) Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves lifting and positioning heavy objects weighing up to 78 pounds, and occasionally, with assistance, handling objects weighing over 79 pounds, while loading or unloading cargo. There is continuous physical activity in reaching, bending, turning or moving feet and legs. WORKING CONDITIONS: Individual works in motor pools, ammunition supply points, fuel points, ranges and training areas, and enclosed cab of vehicle. There is exposure to all types of weather conditions and all types of traffic where there is a possibility of serious accident. The operator is subject to cuts, bruises and broken bones as a result of accident or when loading and unloading vehicles. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling, and related activities. Individual is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material and/or environmental classes. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes from spills and/or leaks and individual may be required to wear protective clothing (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
