    Job Summary

    We are seeking an Associate Operations Specialist to work at our CRADL facility located in Thousand Oaks, CA.

     

    This individual will provide in-vivo support to clients for technical services. Perform technical training and techniques to include surgical and/or technical procedures on rodents, including dose administration, sample collection, euthanasia, necropsy, anesthesia, surgical preparation, and recovery. Provide environmental enrichment appropriate to species and support to multiple clients lab animal facilities and technical services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform any combination of the following duties at IS client facilities, as assigned by site supervisor or client POC and in accordance with research requirements and established site SOP's/practices:

    + Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.

    + Provide technical procedure training to less experienced staff and researchers, and provide re-training as needed.

    + May coordinate (or assist) or manage schedules of other team members; resolves schedule conflicts

    + Assemble, set up, operate and maintain any necessary experimental equipment to conduct in-vivo studies.

    + Conduct laboratory procedures in compliance with established protocols/plans and with regulatory and laboratory requirements.

    + Document experimental data in technical notebooks or approved electronic files including activities undertaken, existing conditions, observed results and variation from expected data patterns.

    + Record, prepare, and analyze data for inclusion in project reports.

    + With guidance from scientific management, maintain a technical knowledge and understanding in his/her assigned area of responsibility.

    + Perform the following techniques in rodents:

    o PO, IV, SQ, IP, IM, and IN dosing and/or inoculation techniques

    o Blood collection from multiple vessels or cardiac, and perfusions

    o Tumor measurements, body weights, IBD and EAE scoring, behavioral monitoring, etc

    o Rodent telemetry and physiological recordings

    o Necropsy, tissue and fluid collections

    + Assist Operations Manager and provide coverage for monitor animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to include: performing daily equipment checks; providing appropriate food and water; performing cage changing and/or cage cleaning; recording animal health concerns.

    + Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas.

    + Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility/attending veterinarian.

    + Follow all procedures necessary to properly maintain animal housing areas, including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, and sanitation/decontamination of equipment and materials.

    + Receive, inspect and properly house incoming animals.

    + Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures.

    + Sanitize, maintain, and repair caging materials as directed. Maintain cage wash facilities in a clean and organized manner.

    + Maintain facility equipment and perform routine preventative maintenance on cage wash and autoclaves, including routine inspection of cleaning filters, roto-arms, and other critical control points as directed.

    + Assist with the receipt, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories.

    + Coordinate with client representatives and corporate/site management to facilitate and optimize quality compliance practices in overall study conduct, data collection and reporting.

    + Interact with customers as directed to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints, and to provide technical assistance.

    + Provide on-site technical and/or training operations/management support at designated internal and external customer locations. Formulate teaching outlines, select teaching aids and determine instructional methods for individual training, group instruction, lectures, and demonstrations.

    + Schedule and conduct audits of contract employees and facility inspections for compliance with internal standard operating procedures, study protocols, and contract Statement of Work. Review protocols for compliance with all applicable governmental, commercial and academic site-specific regulations and client guidelines.

    + Review quality assurance records, reports and training records for accuracy and compliance with all applicable regulations and client guidelines.

    + Audit compliance with company policies, procedures and management guidelines. Provide recommendations for procedure updates as appropriate.

    + Perform breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.

    + Prepare and submit required written records, charts, logs and inventories.

    + Actively perform follow-up animal health checks, administer treatments, and support veterinary procedures under the direction of the veterinary team.

    + When on task as a supervisor, delegate work assignments and ensure completion of duties.

    + Assist supervisors and technologist with mentoring and training of new personnel.

    + Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule.

    + Perform all other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    To qualify for this role candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:

    + Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Life Sciences or related field and two(2) years related animal husbandry and/or technical experience in a lab animal research facility.

    + High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) and four (4) years related animal husbandry and/or technical experience in lab animal research facility.

    In addition:

    + Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Technical experience required includes rodent dosing/inoculation techniques such as PO, IV, IP, SQ and IN, Blood collection from multiple vessels or cardiac, and perfusions; Tumor measurements, body weights, IBD and EAE scoring, behavioral monitoring, etc; Rodent telemetry and physiological recordings; Necropsy, tissue and fluid collections.

    + Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.

    + Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, client and managers.

    + Strong organization skills and attention to detail.

    + Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

    + Proficient in computers (ie: MS Office suite).

    + Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities.

    + Ability to function independently, as well as within a team environment, with minimal supervision.

    + Ability to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and industry regulations.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT).

     

    The hourly pay range for this position is $34.00 - $36.00. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
