THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is currently looking to hire a Mechanic Supervisor to oversee a team of licensed and skilled automotive and diesel mechanics. This role is crucial as it involves managing the maintenance and repair operations of a diverse fleet that includes construction equipment, trucks, automobiles, and various hand tools. The Mechanic Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that all mechanics perform their duties effectively, which encompass a range of tasks from analytical assessments to preventative maintenance and repairs. This position not only requires technical expertise but also strong leadership skills to guide the team in maintaining the operational efficiency and safety of the fleet.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, the equipment operates using gasoline or diesel engines, necessitating hands-on guidance for the repair and maintenance of various systems, including hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, as well as both manual and automatic transmissions. The employee is responsible for supervising the mechanics who conduct state vehicle inspections, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, monitoring the time allocated for repairs, and compiling reports on any incidents of equipment accidents or damage. This role involves assessing the necessary repairs for the equipment and directing the team to implement those repairs effectively. Additionally, the employee evaluates the skill levels of subordinate staff, providing recommendations for necessary training and identifying opportunities for enhancing overall performance within the team.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Four years of journey level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment; or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
+ This position requires possession of a valid PA Class A Commercial Driver’s License supplemented by Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N).
+ This position requires possession of an active Class 7 Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification.
