Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a **Network Engineer** to support our Walter Reed Medical Center support program.

Responsibilities:

+ Deploy and sustain new or existing information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other communications networks.

+ Administers day-to-day sustainment, integrity, security, and availability of the network.

+ Perform daily performance monitoring, capacity analysis, and maintain security posture of the network.

+ May assist architecture and engineering with evaluation, making recommendations and testing of network hardware and software products.

+ Creates standard operating procedures, maintenance guides, and knowledge base articles to ensure proper documentation is established for the operational upkeep of the network.

+ Performs network infrastructure maintenance upgrades to ensure proper security and operational posture is maintained.

+ Ability to work with other senior technical and user staff to complete projects.

+ Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.

+ May train less experienced staff.

Qualifications

Required:

+ Clear understanding of OSI Model Layers 1-3, to include TCP/IP, VTP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols, and EIA/TIA cable standards

+ Must be familiar with firewall and VPN technologies

+ Strong network experience maintaining switches and routers, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN problems

+ Good knowledge of general security methodologies

+ Must have strong oral and written communications skills

+ Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline and 3 years related experience

+ Four (4) years of progressive experience demonstrating the required proficiency.

+ Compliance with DoD Directive 8570.01 “Information Assurance Training, Certification, and Workforce Management required

+ IAT Level II certification required (Security+ CE etc)

+ Must be able to respond to network issues and complete assigned trouble tickets at all network data closets.

+ Create and provide daily or weekly work reports as required to management.

+ Learn, monitor, manage, and update network management tools.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.

+ Provide after-hours on-call and downtime support on rotational basis.

+ Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to install network equipment. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.

+ Obtain, maintain access to DMHRSi program and complete bi-weekly DMHRSi workload documentation.

Clearance:

+ Active Secret clearance required

Desired:

+ DoD and/or medical network experience preferred

+ Current CCNA, or Juniper/Brocade equivalent, desired
