    Responsibilities*

    + Apply simple casts of various materials and assist physicians in theapplication of complex casts.?Prepare patients for and assist in the reduction of fractures by operation of appropriateequipment.?Assist in the treatment of sterile and infected wounds including sterile cleansing, cleansing ofopen and draining wounds and wound dressing.?Remove casts and prepare patients for orthopedic pins.?Assess patient progress after cast application by checking circulation and comfort.?Supervise the daily operations and scheduling of the cast room.?Participate in emergency room cases involving casts.?Participate in the evaluation of new casting materials and techniques.?Participate in instruction of residents in cast application and care.?Provide telephone triage to patients.?Maintain a clean, organized cast room.?Stock and maintain equipment and supplies.?Process patient careorders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certainareas.?Obtain     Required Qualifications*

    + Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Progressively responsible experience in the application of casts and wound treatment.

    + Considerable knowledge of casting materials

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Reasonable experience in clinic operations and emergency services.

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening
