As a first point of contact for most patients, the Patient Service Specialist provides direct, daily operational support in a manner consistent with Guthrie Medical Group’s Service Excellence Standards. The Patient Service Specialist will continually demonstrate Patient Centeredness, Teamwork, and Excellence in the daily performance of their duties. This position requires the ability to be self‐motivated, flexible, punctual, detail oriented, have good time management skills and have excellent communication skills. Experience: Demonstrated customer service commitment in a fast‐paced environment with a minimum of 1 year experience in a customer service related field preferred. Medical office experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Must be comfortable with computers and learning new applications. Essential Functions: Responsible for greeting Every Patient in a courteous, professional, and timely manner Every Time. Responsible for answering telephone calls in a friendly and efficient manner according to Guthrie’s Telephone Standards. Screens telephone calls, takes messages and provides information. Skillfully perform liaison duties between patients, physicians, hospital staff, organizational departments, etc., keeping the departments fully aware of all necessary information. Continually keep patients informed of any delays. Adheres to departmental and organizational policies and attends meetings/huddles as required. Requires the ability to prioritize daily tasks simultaneously in a fast‐paced, ever changing work environment within a strong team structure. Maintains strict confidentiality related to patient health information in accordance with HIPAA compliance. Patient Service Specialist Registration (Point of Service) 1. Registers patient. Reviews, verifies and corrects patient account and insurance information to optimize collection efforts and responsible for appropriate assertive cash collection at time of service. Verify eligibility for insurance carriers. 2. Performs charge entry function in a timely manner after analyzing charge ticket for completeness and accurate use of CPT, ICD‐10 and Modifiers. 3. Provides appropriate explanation of account when requested by the patient, i.e. insurance company denials or payment. Directs patients who may need financial assistance to a Patient Representative. 4. Responsible to set up small dollar, short term payment arrangements for patients requesting to do so. 5. Responsible for daily cash‐out and balancing in accordance with the Patient Cash Control Policy. Patient Service Specialist Scheduling (Office Assistant) 1. Verifies patient information at time of scheduling and assigns B# / MRN to new patients. 2. Responsible for scheduling and maintaining all patient appointments electronically. 3. Inform patient of financial responsibility at time of scheduling. 4. Responsible for editing appointment schedule at physician's request with administrator approval. 5. Complete various types of insurance forms, precertification’s and referrals. Other Duties: Provides support to the manager and/or lead, providers, billing, clinical staff and most importantly the patients. Research returned mail for the entire Guthrie Medical Group and provide appropriate feedback to users. Assists with and completes other projects or duties as assigned. Responsible to report any areas of concern to Manager or Lead and provides support in dealing with complex issues. Stays current and learns new skills as needed to perform all aspects of position. Required to do all yearly mandatory training modules as well as any other training required of the job. Performs testing and monitoring of electronic system upgrades. Assist in training of all employees as assigned. Sorts workload in order of importance and maintains flexibility to handle emergencies as they arise. Sort mail, as needed.

     

    The pay ranges from $17.00-$23.49 per hour
