    JOB SPECIFICS

    Financial Technician I:

    + Verify transaction documentation to ensure that it is properly coded and has required approvals

    + Enter data for accounts payable and accounts receivable

    + Receive & track payments or fees electronically

    + Scan and file financial documents

    + Direct inquiries to the appropriate staff

    + Respond to questions about the accounting software system

    + Inventory (materials & supplies) tracking across the Public Works Department

    + Purchasing operational supplies and materials

    + Department asset tracking (capital and controllable) and surplus equipment public auction/sales and other duties as assigned.

    Financial Technician II: Above duties, plus:

    + Analyzes and determines appropriate entries for unusual transactions.

    + Determines appropriate procedures for difficult situations

    + Prepares reimbursement documents

    + Reviews billings prior to mailing to verify accuracy and has authority to make changes when they do not meet rules and regulations

    + Creates billings for selected providers, adding service fees as appropriate

    + Interacts with providers regarding billing issues

    + Responds with appropriate action when providers claim discrepancies in their billing or do not pay the proper amount

    + Communicates with vendors if their billings do not reflect appropriate rates, dates of service, volumes or are duplicate billings

     

    The Financial Technician II position classification has duties of greater complexity and variety in the area of assignment and employees work with considerably more independence and have greater responsibility in carrying out their assignments.     DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:

    + Experience interacting with and providing customer service to individuals from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds

    + Paid work experience or training in support or administration of public assistance programs and community resources.

    + Paid work experience providing customer service in a high-volume setting.

    + Paid work experience working with private and/or confidential client information.

    + High School diploma (or equivalent), completion of an office support certificate/degree program is a plus.

    + Demonstrates ability to learn to operate and utilize work equipment and technology.

     

    SELECTION TECHNIQUE : Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.

     

    HOURS / DAYS : Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment after the first six months of employment (3 days in the office/2 days remote). Work schedules (hours and days) and location are subject to change based on department needs.

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Financial Technician I performs a variety of financial transactions within a department's financial function. The job requires the ability to follow established financial procedures to process transactions and enter data accurately into financial software systems.

    + Respond to questions about the accounting software system.

     

    Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    Essential functions: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is sedentary in nature performed within the Government Center or satellite offices. Lifting requirement of 15-20 pounds on an occasional basis. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation due to high concentration of filing, compiling, calculating, or computer work. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, calculator, telephone,copy and fax machine.
