    The Evans School of Public Policy & Governance** **has an exciting opening for a** **n Assistant Dean for Development & External Relations** **. This is a full-time** **,** **permanent position.

     

    The Assistant Dean for Development & External Relations provides strategic leadership to advance the Evans School’s purpose and mission in ways that embody the School’s core values of equity, courage, and service. The primary responsibility of this role is to maximize meaningful fundraising, stakeholder engagement, communications and strategic opportunities in ways that further enhance the Evan School’s impact. Working in close partnership with the Dean and senior leadership, the Assistant Dean provides strategic oversight of advancement functions, including philanthropic development, marketing and communications, and external relations, to foster meaningful, lifelong engagement between the School and its donors, alumni and community members.

     

    The Assistant Dean supervises the Director of Development and the Director of Marketing & Communications and leads engagement with key constituencies, including alumni, donors, volunteers, philanthropic and civic leaders, and internal University stakeholders, in alignment with the School’s priorities.

    What You Will Do** **:

    _Strategic Leadership and Team Managemen_ _t_

    + Provide strategic oversight of theSchool’scomprehensive advancement program, including annual,majorand planned giving; corporate and foundation relations; stewardship and donor recognition; alumni relations and programming; and School-wide marketing,communicationsand external relations.

    + Collaborate with central University Advancement and campus partners to secure private support and advance the School’s priorities.

    + In partnership with the Dean and Evans Policy Innovation Collaborative (EPIC) leadership, cultivate and strengthen relationships with philanthropic, nonprofit, publicand business partners topromotetheSchool’srole as a hub for public impact research and solutions.

    + Serve as a strategic thought partner to theSchool’sleadership team, ensuring advancement efforts are aligned withboth the UW and Evans School’smissionand priorities.

    + Collaborate with cross-campus development peers to share best practices and advance coordinated, effective fundraising strategies.

    _Frontline Fundraising_

    + Lead and support the development team’squalification, cultivation,solicitationand stewardship of gifts.

    + Manage a portfolio of leadership-level prospects and donors in alignment with established fundraising metrics.

    + Develop and execute strategies to grow and diversify theSchool’sdonor base, with particular emphasis on major gifts and annual private-giving goals.

    + Build and steward relationships with key donors, prospects, volunteersand business and community leaders to advance shared priorities and philanthropic investment.

    + Growand strengthen fundraising programs,including the annual fund, plannedgivingand signature events,to sustain and expand donor engagement.

    + Lead School-wide efforts to cultivate and manage strategic institutional partnerships that advance philanthropy andengagement, including research,educationand community collaboration.

    _Planning and Campaign Strategy Developmen_ _t_

    + Partner with the Dean and senior leadership to set annual advancement goals,prioritiesand strategies.

    + Assess advancement programs through data analysis and reporting.

    + In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President for Schools and Colleges and central University Advancementcolleagues, lead campaign planning efforts, including infrastructure development, volunteer engagement, prospect prioritization, internalcoordinationand case development aligned with School and University priorities.

    + Develop and manage a strategic donor pipeline, advancing community-centered fundraising and cultivating relationships with alumni,policymakersand philanthropic partners.

    _Program Leadership & External Relations_

    + Partner with the Director of Marketing & Communications to set and execute annual communications and engagement strategies aligned with School and University priorities.

    + Collaborate with EPIC leadershipand federal,stateand local officials to develop signature programs that engage communities in addressing complex public challenges.

    + Monitor legislative and public policy priorities in coordination with UW State Relations to inform Schoolstrategy andengagement activities.

    + Strengthen relationships with alumni and volunteers, ensuring alignment with the Universityof WashingtonAlumni Association, and provide strategic oversight of the School’s Ambassadors program.

    + Oversee high-impact events and public programs that advance theSchool’smission and public visibility, providing guidance on messaging,speakersand cross-partner leverage.

    + Lead and manage the Dean’s Council, partnering with the Chair and internal staff to ensure effective governance,communicationand engagement.

     

    _Other duties as assigned._

    Minimum** **Requirement** **s** **:

    Master’s in Public Administration and/or Public Policy AND at least seven years of professional advancement experience in institutional development or advancement, with an emphasis on cultivating and soliciting major gifts.

     

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    + Demonstrated success as an inclusive, strategic leader with the ability to set and communicate a clear long-term vision that inspires staff,volunteersand partners and drives organizational impact.

    + Deep understanding of advancement principles, including fundraising, alumnirelationsand donor engagement.

    + Proven ability to deliver results in a complex environment by setting priorities, exercising soundjudgmentand managing multiple initiatives with accountability and initiative.

    + Strong storytelling and communication skills, with a creative approach to design and conveying institutional impact.

    + Experience leading and coaching direct reports.

    + Experience designing,implementingand overseeing programs that advance organizational goals.

    What You Can Expect** **:

    + Hybrid schedule ofatleast three days in the Seattle office.

    + Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

    + Ability to travel when necessary. Frequent local travel is expected.

    Pay Range Minimum:

    $160,008.00 annual

    Pay Range Maximum:

    $177,372.00 annual
