    Job Summary and Qualifications

    + Maintains phlebotomy tray in a sanitary and properly supplied condition at all times. Test materials are properly prepared before each test; all necessary materials/supplies are available during the test.

    + PerformsvenipuncturesonInpatients,Outpatients,Emergencyroompatientsandnursinghomepatients.

    + Correctly identifies patients as per lab policy, asking patient for two identifiers when drawing blood. Patient is asked to spell their first and last name and their DOB, and inpatient’s wrist band is checked to verify the patient ID.

    + Performs venipuncture in an average time of 5 minutes with minimal trauma to neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

    + Knows all solutions used in tubes, or knows where to locate information regarding specimen requirements and appropriate tubes.

    + Draws blood following Standard Precautions and OSHA Regulations and properly disposes of needles immediately after use.

    + Accurately labels tubes at the patient's side immediately after a procedure is completed with appropriate information.

    + Performs dispatch of specimens at offsite locations for courier transport to the Hospital lab.

    + Demonstrates the ability to learn and apply new methodologies.
