    Summary The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated pharmacist with extensive experience with health-system pharmacy operations. The candidate must exemplify an understanding of medication safety standards, process improvement, education/training, and process improvement standards. The candidate must demonstrate a mastery of hospital experience and understand regulatory oversight. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Pharmacist working in the Medication Safety Section, within the Pharmacy Department, your major duties will include but are not limited to: Serving as the Chief of this section supervising Supervisory Pharmacists, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians; planning and assigning work and evaluating work performance and training needs of subordinates; developing and leading implementation of drug information and policy strategies based on practice standards, literature review, medication safety and care of patients and the research mission of the Clinical Center; ensuring compliance with state and federal regulatory and legal requirements relating to medication safety, and assisting in the accreditation process by ensuring the organization's medication-use processes meet applicable medication management standards and national patient safety goals; designing, implementing and evaluating learning experiences for all staff levels to acquire, maintain, or increase their knowledge and competence; consulting with and advising specific clinical teams and the hospital and health systems generally on medication safety opportunities and strategies to improve patient care. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for a Supervisory Pharmacist (Medication Safety), GS-0660-14, you must: BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A. A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. OR B. A bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a substantial record of experience and achievement that demonstrates competence in the pharmacy field. Individuals who qualify based on this option will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. AND License: An active current license as a pharmacist in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In order to meet the minimum qualifications for each position described above you must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following: Ability to assess and ensure the safety of pharmaceutical products manufactured or procured and services provided in a hospital pharmacy or pharmaceutical-related program or activity; Demonstrate a broad understanding of health care systems and processes to facilitate accurate interpretation of clinical events; possess experience with all aspects of the medication-use system, including procurement, prescribing, transcribing, preparation, distribution, administration, documentation, and monitoring; Ability to interpret regulatory guidelines, policies and standards including USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, and/or cGMP. Additional Information This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage. A newly appointed or reappointed employee may receive service credit for prior work experience or active duty uniformed service that otherwise would not be creditable for the purpose of determining his or her annual leave accrual rate. All creditable service must be directly related to the duties of the position being filled and decisions to allow for such credit must be finalized prior to the selectee's entrance on duty.
