POSITION SUMMARY
This position works in concert with and support of management to establish and direct the management of the Biomedical Engineering department. This includes supervision of the biomedical staff and coordination of all activities relating to the repair, preventive and corrective maintenance of laboratory equipment at all system locations. _Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards._
CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Plans, develops, monitors and administers emergency and preventative maintenance programs and maintains parts inventory to ensure that biomedical maintenance and repair services are available and reliable when needed.
2. Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations and directs the workflow for the Biomedical Engineering staff. This position is also accountable for participating in the development and implementation of departmental goals and objectives. Ensures all goals and objectives are met timely and effectively.
3. Reviews and monitors all service documentation performed by the department. Informs director and management staff when external vendors are required to perform service on biomedical equipment.
4. Participates in planning and developing an annual budget and manages the department expenses within the approved budget.
5. Works with committees as applicable to provide Biomedical input on planning and providing services.

TYPE OF SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Hires, trains, conducts performance evaluations, and supervises the workflow for staff. This includes initiating promotions, transfers, and performance management actions.
SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY
Responsible for managing the maintenance of all laboratory equipment according to applicable Federal, State and Regulatory requirements. Customers are internal to the laboratory, other Banner Healthcare managers and executives and vendors. Has freedom to determine how best to accomplish functions within established procedures. Confer with director for unusual situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS
Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Requires significant use of personal computer, phone and general office equipment. Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to stand, climb, stoop, bend; frequently. Ability to tolerate exposure to conditions which may include toxic chemicals, bio-hazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heights, high temperatures or confined spaces. Ability to use proper body mechanics to lift supplies and equipment and push carts and dollies weighing up to 500 pounds. Needs adequate color vision and must wear protective clothing as required. Must be able to drive to various locations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Requires certification as a Clinical Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES) with three years’ experience OR Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Technology with three year’s clinical laboratory instrumentation experience OR eight years of clinical laboratory instrumentation experience.
+ Requires knowledge of medical terminology and electronics.
+ Must have proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and related technology, have good interpersonal skills and demonstrated behavior consistent with identified core values.
+ Must possess a valid State driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Asset management software and previous management experience preferred.
