    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

     

    In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position. If position is supervisory, incumbent is also expected to actively support and work toward fulfilling the Agency’s Affirmative Action objectives.

     

    Supervises the park staff and participates in the management of the area’s resources, facilities and public use under existing rules and operating policies to provide the proper levels of administration, resource management, visitor services, protection and maintenance.

    ADMINISTRATION

    Demonstrates, models and reinforces the agency’s mission of “More Protection. . .Less Process” and the fundamental values of fairness, cooperation, respect, commitment, excellence, honesty and teamwork. The employee demonstrates this competency in their interactions with co-workers, supervisors and service recipients; in the personal contributions to work assignments and projects and representing the agency or the state.

     

    Provides for employee selection, training, supervision and discipline for staff. Prepares, implements and controls the work scheduling and assignments for the park staff, administers the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations.

     

    Ensures employee evaluations are completed within established guidelines.

     

    Prepares budget requests, provides for effective expenditure of appropriations, supervises the collection of fees, is responsible for all facility and equipment inventories, and implements established policies for fiscal control and accountability.

     

    Promotes a constructive and beneficial relationship between the park’s volunteers and the Florida Park Service.

     

    Actively participates in all park Citizen Support Organization (CSO) meetings and functions and ensures that the CSO is kept informed about all park issues and developments on an ongoing basis.

    RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

    Demonstrates the ability to implement and guide the resource management plan for the area park(s), as outline in the current unit management plan(s).

    VISITOR SERVICES

    Maintains good public relations: working with local and state government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and volunteers, in an effort to get community and organizational support in obtaining park goals and objectives.

    MAINTENANCE

    Demonstrates knowledge of building maintenance and construction, and skill in operation of medium and heavy equipment and using a variety of hand tools.

     

    Plans, implements and controls the area’s maintenance program. Identifies maintenance needs and provides supervision and management of the staff to maintain the facilities and support equipment for efficient area operation.

    PROTECTION

    Demonstrates the ability to implement and enforce all laws, rules, operating policies, leases, agreements and permits pertaining to this area.

     

    Performs other work-related duties as required.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    KNOWLEDGE OF:

    Position of Special Trust Requirement:

    This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

    Pay:

    $4,965.28 monthly/$59,583.34 annually

    An exciting and challenging opportunity awaits a self-motivated and active individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill the position of Park Manager at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The selected candidate for this position will need to possess good supervisory skills, as well as knowledge, skills, and abilities in all areas of park service management including administration, maintenance, resource management, visitor services, and protection. The incumbent of this position will provide oversight of operations including concessionaire, volunteers, park projects and budgets for Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Atlantic Ridge Preserve State Park. This position will work to lead, assist, oversee, and mentor the staff. The Park Manager has a staff of 18 employees which includes an Assistant Park Manager, Administrative Assistant, Maintenance Mechanic, Biological Scientist, 10 Park Rangers, 4 Park Services Specialists as well as a variety of OPS support staff. The park also has a volunteer program and an active Citizen Support Organization that supports the park and staff.
