Description
East House is seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a trusted executive partner to the President & chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team. This role is designed for a seasoned leader who brings judgment, presence, and credibility to the organization’s most complex financial, operational, and business challenges, and who thrives at the intersection of strategy, stewardship, and execution.
The CFO will lead and mentor the organization’s Finance, Accounting, Facilities, and related operational leaders, while shaping an integrated financial and business strategy that advances mission, performance, and long-term sustainability. This executive must be equally comfortable setting strategic direction, offering candid financial and business counsel, and rolling up their sleeves to ensure strategies are executed with rigor, discipline, and integrity.
Success in this role requires confidence grounded in competence, and the ability to build trust through collaboration, thoughtful challenge, and a solutions-oriented approach. The CFO is expected to provide constructive counterpoints when needed, balancing independent financial judgment with deep respect for organizational priorities, executive roles, and shared decision-making. Once direction is set, the CFO executes decisively, modeling accountability, partnership, and values-based leadership.
This role is for an executive who understands that financial leadership is a critical enabler of mission and people. The CFO brings strong business acumen, systems thinking, and a coaching-oriented mindset to every interaction, proactively supporting leaders, strengthening organizational infrastructure, and ensuring East House’s resources are stewarded in alignment with its values and long-term vision.
Requirements
Strategic Leadership
+ Develops and implements financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
+ Partners with the CEO and Board of Directors to establish financial policies, practices, internal controls, and priorities.
+ Provides guidance to the Finance Committee and represents the organization to internal and external stakeholders.
+ Leads and mentors Finance, Facilities, and Purchasing teams, fostering continuous improvement.
+ Offers strategic counsel on financial and real estate matters.
Finance
+ Oversees financial operations which include budgeting, cash, expenditure control, audits, capital assets, reporting and investment management.
+ Ensures strong internal controls, risk mitigation, and GAAP-compliant financial records.
+ Leads financial planning, forecasting, analysis of KPIs, and long-term financial strategy.
+ Manages acquisition, leasing, and maintenance of East House real estate assets.
+ Advises the CEO and Board on financial decision-making.
+ Ensures compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
+ Negotiates all business/general liability insurance policies and partners with the Chief People Officer to negotiate employee benefit contracts.
+ Manages relationships with funders and payors regarding reimbursement and policy issues.
Financial Management
+ Oversees accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable/payable, and grant reporting.
+ Prepares and presents financial statements to leadership and the Board.
+ Manages cash flow and banking relationships.
+ Ensures timely and accurate audit activities, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
+ Monitors and improves financial systems, controls, and operational efficiency.
+ Manages the agency’s insurance program and conducts ongoing risk assessments.
+ Oversees contract negotiation, grant budgeting, and financial compliance for funded programs.
Budgeting and Forecasting
+ Leads the annual budgeting process in collaboration with program and executive leadership.
+ Provides regular budget variance analysis and financial updates.
+ Models financial impacts of contracts and strategic initiatives.
+ Guides resource allocation, productivity goals, and operational planning.
+ Supports strategic planning and participates in organizational problem-solving.
Tax Filing and Compliance
+ Ensures all tax filings are accurate and compliant with applicable laws.
+ Oversees relationships with auditors and external financial service providers.
Procurement
+ Oversees purchasing and procurement to ensure cost effective and efficient operations.
+ Stays up to date with the latest market trends and collaborates with supplier contracts and monitors vendor performance.
+ Leads long-term procurement strategy and development of procurement policies.
+ Oversees cost-saving initiatives and financial forecasting related to procurement.
Facilities
+ Oversees Facility operations to ensure fully operational, safe, and compliant property.
+ Ensures proper maintenance of buildings, grounds, and utilities.
Other
+ Complies with all policies, federal and state laws/regulations, and the East House compliance program. Performs other duties as assigned by President & CEO.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
+ CPA preferred.
Experience
+ Minimum10 years of progressive financial leadership, including 5+ years in an executive level, ideally in non-profit human services.
+ Experience in real estate, financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and drive operational improvement.
+ Experience with complex organizations, change initiatives, and technology/financial systems.
+ Knowledge of fiscal planning, budgeting, risk management, regulatory compliance, and forecasting models.
+ Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions
Traditional office environment; occasionally time-sensitive pressure. Travel within the Greater Rochester area and occasional travel outside of Monroe County.
