    UPMC Magee-Women's Hospital is seeking a Full-Time Painter to support the Plant Maintenance Management department!

     

    Shift/Schedule: This position will work Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 2:00pm shifts. Potential overtime opportunities. _*Hours are subject to change based on business needs._

    The Painter properly prepares and applies a protective and decorative coating on walls, ceilings, doors, frames, casework and furniture. This role performs other related duties in and around the building and grounds of the hospital complex.

    Responsibilities:

    + Paints surfaces using brushes, paint rollers or spray gun.

    + Cleans work area after completing projects.

    + Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.

    + Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces.

    + Repairs to wall finishes including tile, wallpaper and plaster finishes including measuring and ordering all necessary material for installation.

    + Demonstrates safe work habits.

    + Minor repairs to walls including structural supports and studs.

    + Smooths and removes old paint to prepare surfaces for sealer, primer or finish coat.

    + Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler.

    + Stencils surfaces; papers walls and ceilings; and refinishes furniture and fixtures.

    + Turns in completed work tickets on a daily basis.

    + Completes work tickets with appropriate information.

    + Maintains the necessary personal tools to carry out craft duties and keeps tools in a good condition.

    + Assists other crafts in completing their duties.

    + Prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required portions of pigment, oil and thinning and drying substances.

    + Rigs stage or erects scaffolding.

    + Orders necessary parts and material through established procedures.

    + Spreads cloth or canvas to segregate and protect surrounding area and furniture from work area.

    + High School Diploma.

    + Preferred Painter/Finisher Journeyman status or holds a certificate from a qualified trade school specifically in painting and plastering acquired thru no less than 12 to 18 months of training preferred

    + Three (3) years of practical experience. Successful demonstration of the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit.

    + This individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

    + SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    + Ability to understand and comply with oral and written instructions.

    + Ability to stand for prolonged periods and push, carry or haul a variety of objects.

    + Ability to structurally repair walls, drywall, mix and applies all types of plaster to repair seams and surfaces.

    + Color discrimination needed to detect differences in mixed and sample colors.

    + Ability to use such tools as a putty knife, sanding machine, scraper, paintbrush and roller.

    + Ability to perform a variety of activities according to specific assignments.

    + Ability to resolve routine problems and refer difficult or unusual problems to the Assistant Director.

    + Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and cooperate with various levels of Hospital personnel, physicians and patients to complete work in occupied areas in a tactful and courteous manner.
