Job Descriptions:
Provides direct and indirect nursing services for students with developmental disabilities. Utilizes the nursing process, nursing diagnoses, and nursing interventions and is accountable to the student, family, caregivers, and peers for delivery of optimum care.
Performs assessment and treatment of students on an emergency basis as well as on a continuous basis. Reports circumstances occurring at the time a student experiences a seizure, injury, illness, behavioral episode and /or any other medical or emotional difficulty to supervisor.
Assures student health screenings and referrals mandated by the State and agency policy are completed in the required timelines.
Follows State and County Health Department guidelines for control and management of communicable diseases. Assures compliance with agency and State laws regarding student immunizations, exemptions, and exclusions by assessing, documenting, and maintaining the status of all student immunization records and making appropriate referrals to physicians and healthcare facilities for immunizations.
Develops individual student health care plans, based on the nursing process, and as requested attends IEP meetings for students with medical health care needs. Implements student care and establishes priority order for student care activities
Performs treatments and procedures as directed by the physician in accordance with Stark DD policy and procedure and according to professional standards of nursing practice, Ohio Board of Nursing, ODE, ODH and DODD. Reviews Emergency and medical forms for accuracy and completeness.
Delegates student care and tasks to appropriate medical administration certified DD Personnel and supervises their performance and skills. Participates in training and supervision of nurse delegated tasks and medication administration for certified DD Personnel. Participates in health-related in-service training for staff to maintain compliance with medication certification requirements.
Assists and consults with staff, families, physicians and others about the medical needs of the student including treatments, procedures and instructions.
Participates in the identification, reporting and management of students suspected of being abused or neglected.
Assists Privacy Officer to protect confidential information of the individuals served from unauthorized use or disclosure.
Attends and participates in conferences, trainings, and meetings.
