Position Description:
Sustainability Interns will apply their knowledge and experience at a fast-paced, innovative company while working with the latest technology and tools. Interns will contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor. If you are passionate about processes and sustainability, our internship is the perfect fit for you. We will offer one internship each year, with a focus on every aspect of our sustainability program.
Position Qualifications:
+ Candidates are preferred to be pursuing a 4-year degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management, Civil, Structural, Architecture, or Construction Management at an accredited university.
+ Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to seek out technical solutions and be self-directed.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced virtual environment, while communicating with internal stakeholders regarding the status of key deliverables.
+ Task-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Essential Duties:
Get hands-on experience in different sustainability focus areas:
+ Visiting job sites to assist with submittal reviews and Green Badger tracking (our LEED tracking software).
+ Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon data gathering.
+ Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and submittal reviews.
+ Developing and reviewing LEED requirements for projects.
+ Embodied carbon tracking.
+ Jobsite wellness program management.
+ Implementing jobsite sustainability process.
Physical Work Classification & Demands:
+ Light Work. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
+ The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.
+ Walking - The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
+ Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer.
+ The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office administration.
+ Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
+ Constantly reads written communications and views email submissions.
+ The person in this position regularly sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.
+ Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
+ Rarely exposed to high and low temperatures
+ Rarely exposed to noisy environments and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
Benefits:
Hensel Phelps believes in the importance of taking time to recharge. As a result, employees are eligible for paid time off beginning upon hire.
**Compensation Range:** $24.00 - $27.00 per hour, depending on project location, plus housing or housing allowance.
