Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Description:

This position is responsible for leading and designing the electrical power distribution network for the auxiliary equipment of our Gas Turbine projects. Our voltage levels are primarily in the low-voltage side (600V and below) with the implementation of equipment such as MCCs, Panelboards, LV Transformers, DC Systems, and Batteries.

• Contribute to proposals based on expressed customer needs.

• Design solutions to match code requirements and customer specifications.

• Utilize SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) to design the electrical power distribution network as a database.

• Successfully develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical loads lists, motors lists, feeder schematics, master cable schedules, master terminations schedules, and other electrical documents best suited for extraction from a database type tool like SPEL. Experience with similar database driven software will also be considered.

• Utilize SmartPlant 3D (S3D) to design the electrical power distribution system to successfully develop power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit/cable tray arrangements, hazardous area classifications, and other electrical documents best suited for extraction from a database/3D type tool like S3D.

• Experience with similar database driven 3D software will also be considered.

• Perform calculations, sizing of equipment (i.e., breakers, overload devices, etc.), sizing of cables/conduits/equipment spacing, illumination level calculations, maintaining bill of materials, and other design duties required by the complexity of the project.

• Prepare purchase specifications and select vendors to construct electrical packages.

• Develop and incorporate hazardous area classification requirements, develop single line diagrams, power and control schematics, wire and cable specifications, load lists, maintain comprehensive cable schedules and electrical equipment schedules, etc.

• Select and specify CTs, VTs, Protective Relays, Motor Controls, Power Supplies, and DC backup systems

• Specify proper testing procedures per industry standards and customer requirements.

• Establish and document standard design processes and products.

• Simplify product designs for improved manufacturability and reduce costs without compromising product quality and function.

• Assist Sales and Marketing and Development Engineering with projects to enhance existing and develop new product lines.

• Develop schedules, coordinate and manage projects of all sizes with minimal supervision.

• Interface with purchasing and vendors in the modification and approval of component parts and assemblies.

• Meet regularly with vendors and ensure that all technical and schedule requirements are met.

• Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.

• Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent company.

• Develop processes and procedures that will ensure effective and optimized use of resources while providing high-quality design packages.

• Establish corrective actions to reduce nonconformance and improve quality.

• Follow up and resolve any pending items which are found during, or remain after, completion of Project execution up to the expiration of the Warranty period.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (BA) in Electrical Engineering required.

o Minimum Five (5) years of technical and/or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design (up to 600VAC and 220VDC). Individuals with inclination towards computer programming languages is highly encouraged. Desired Minimum Seven (7) years of experience.

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, thermodynamics and trigonometry.

• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

• Fluent in MS Office applications (Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Acrobat Writer, Excel, etc.).

• Knowledge of databases, project management, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.

• SmartPlant Electrical:

o Expertise of the software is a plus.

o Significant expertise in registered report creation/modification, symbol creation, filters creation, rules creation, reference data creation, batch mode operations, data maintenance, and overall effective utilization of tool.

• SmartSketch:

o Past experience/expertise with the tool is a plus.

• SmartPlant 3D:

o Minimum 2 years, or significant expertise in the creation of electrical tray/conduit

Work Environment:

This position will be in the office in Lake Mary, FL. Ability to work a hybrid schedule, 3 days in the office, 2 days remote. Must be local.

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
