    State Hospital South has an exciting opportunity for a candidate experienced in the management of medical records! TheHealth Information Managerwill serve as the East Hub Privacy Officer and supervise a team of Health Information Specialists.

     

    State Hospital South was established in 1886 and is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South inBlackfootprovides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.

     

    The successful applicant will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    + Develops health information systems, standards and procedures and directs system maintenance Hires and trains staff and evaluates performance

    + Directs collection and recording of essential health information from a variety of sources, monitors integrity of the information and ensures appropriate records access

    + Establishes data quality controls to ensure validity of the data

    + Ensures records systems and procedures comply with laws and regulations and meet accreditation, licensure, certification and legal documentation requirements

    + Serves as facility expert on health information systems, record and billing systems, requirements, and methods

    + Act as privacy specialist for the hospital and East Hub

    + Establishes procedures to ensure confidentiality of patient information and care records and authorizes release of information

    + Compiles information for submission to courts and for use in legal proceedings

    + Reviewing and making decisions on client requests for records

    + Assisting in quality improvement activities

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below.

     

    + Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) as issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) in accordance with Idaho Administrative Code 16.03.02.203.

    + Experience Interpreting and explaining laws, rules, and legal documents pertaining to health information records management. Typically gained by at least one year experience interpreting and explaining laws, rules, legal documents such as those found in department or company manuals, insurance policy requirements, technical health related information, health information policies and procedures, state and federal laws governing confidentiality/release of information on medical records.

    + Some knowledge of Supervisory practices. T ypically gained by a class or seminar (more than one day), specifically covering supervisory practices OR leadwork experience that required work direction, monitoring work, and making work assignments (such experience on a fill-in basis is not qualifying unless for a period of approximately three months or more).

    + Some knowledge of Automated information systems . Typically gained by.

    + Completed college level course work (3 semester hours) OR a three-day course (approximately 20 hours) specific to automated information systems OR I have at least three months' work experience in automated information systems.

    + At least two years' experience working in an automated information system; AND/OR an associate degree or recognized certification in the clerical field.

    + At least two years' experience working in an automated information system AND an academic or vocational degree in medical records.
