    Qualifications

    Educational and other Requirements for the position:

    PhD in Chemistry, Biophysics, Computational Biology, machine learning, or related discipline.

    Experience Required:

    PhD-level research training.

    Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project:

    Generation of new scientific knowledge and publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

     

    Compensation Statement

     

    The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $74,692.00 - $80,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

    Responsibilities

    Details of Research Project:

    Dr. Peña’s proposed research will further build upon and enhance the Filizola lab’s research program aimed at elucidating membrane protein structures and dynamics for the purpose of drug discovery. His work will contribute to deepening mechanistic understanding of signaling processes through advanced computational approaches. Key responsibilities will include: (a) Conducting enhanced molecular dynamics simulations to probe membrane protein structures, conformational dynamics, and activation pathways; (b) Designing, developing, and applying innovative computational methods that advance the lab’s research goals and guide experimental strategies; (c) Performing rigorous analysis and interpretation of complex simulation and experimental datasets to extract mechanistic insights into membrane protein signaling and activation; (d) Generating high-quality preliminary data in support of grant applications and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts for submission to high-impact peer-reviewed journals; and (e) Collaborating closely with lab members, mentoring graduate trainees, and fostering an inclusive and supportive research environment that encourages intellectual development and teamwork.
