    Compensation:

    $84,233 - $119,240 (Grade F)

    Summary

    We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Manager of Employee Support and Safety to join our team. In this role, you’ll help ensure a safe and compliant work environment across multiple divisions of the Subways. You’ll serve as a trusted partner for safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and employee support programs, while collaborating with internal teams, labor unions, and external agencies.     Responsibilities:

    As the Manager of Employee Support and Safety, you will:

    + Drive Safety Initiatives: Support four operating divisions in implementing safety policies, annual Safety Goal Action Plans, and monthly Safety Committee meetings.

    + Ensure Compliance: Monitor adherence to NYCT safety policies, labor agreements, and regulatory requirements, including asbestos and lead programs.

    + Collaborate Across Teams: Act as liaison between Subways divisions, the Office of System Safety (OSS), labor unions, and the NYS Department of Labor.

    + Investigate & Resolve Issues: Assist with accident investigations, safety complaints, and injury-on-duty reviews to identify trends and corrective actions.

    + Manage Safety Programs: Oversee Lockout/Tagout inspections, Job Task Hazard Assessments, and vulnerability assessments for compliance submissions.

    + Maintain Safety Systems: Manage Safety SharePoint sites, dashboards, and databases to track corrective actions, union complaints, and program compliance.

    + Lead Audits: Head the Safety Audit Team for multiple divisions, ensuring audits of facilities, maintenance shops, and job sites meet annual goals.

    + Develop Procedures: Create and update operating procedures, safety directives, and advisories. Review and evaluate new PPE, tools, and chemicals for approval.

    + Respond & Support: Provide on-site support for incidents, coordinate responses to executive-level inquiries, and remain available for emergency situations (on-call 24/7).

    Education and Experience Requirements

    A Baccalaureate degree in Transportation Management or an equivalent major field of study, with a minimum of (5) years of experience in transportation or satisfactory experience, which (2) years must have been in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

    Desired Skills:

    We’re seeking a candidate who brings:

    + Safety Expertise: Strong knowledge of NYCT/Subways safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

    + Technical Know-How: Experience with hazardous materials handling, asbestos abatement, and safety compliance programs.

    + Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address technical challenges, resolve safety issues, and interpret labor agreements.

    + Industry Experience: Background in safety or labor relations within public transportation or a similar environment is highly desirable.

    + Communication & Tech Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, plus proficiency in relevant software tools (SharePoint, dashboards, databases).

    Selection Method:

    Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience, and interview.

     

    All appointments, with the exception of the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be made on the NYCT payroll.
