Position Summary:

The SchoolCounselor/School Mental Health Worker provides individual and group counselingto students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social challenges. The School Counselor/School Mental HealthWorker supports students in developing coping strategies, improving emotionalregulation, and enhancing overall mental well-being. In collaboration with families, teachers, andother school staff, they help create a safe and supportive learningenvironment, facilitate referrals to community-based mental health serviceswhen needed, and contribute to the development of school-wide mental healthinitiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Provides academic, career, and social - emotional counseling to support students’ overall development and well - being.

+ Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to identify student needs and address barriers impacting academic or behavioral success.

+ Conducts individual and group counseling sessions to help students build coping skills, improve peer relationships, and manage emotional challenges.

+ Responds to student crises by assessing safety concerns, providing immediate support, and coordinating follow - up services when necessary.

+ Develops and implements student intervention plans to promote academic achievement, positive behavior, and consistent attendance.

+ Connects students and families with school and community resources, including mental health services, tutoring, mentoring programs, and crisis support.

Minimum Requirements

+ Licensing/Certification according to state/facility/contract requirement

+ The Counselor may be required to have an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in Psychology, Addictions, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, or some other Human Development major per state, contract and/or facility guidelines.

+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

+ Current CPR if applicable
