Description: Job Description Quality Systems Technician - Protein
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of technical food product tests, process checks, and audits to ensure compliance
with company, customer, governmental, process, and product quality, safety, and sanitation
standards. The primary focus of the quality systems department is to ensure that only safe, high
quality product is sent to our customers.
RESPONSIB ILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUN CTIONS:
1. Collect and prepare samples for microbiological, analytical, or chemical testing on surfaces, raw
materials, in-process, and finished products. (20 %)
2. Conduct tests and audits on products, processes, and facilities to ensure compliance with
product consistency, safety, and quality standards. Calibrate and maintain testing equipment to
ensure accuracy and reliability of QA procedures. (30 %)
3. Conduct and verify monitoring activities to support the quality program and department. (15 %)
4. Maintain records and test results to facilitate availability of accurate and thorough information.
Conduct research, data analysis, and compile reports to support departmental, regulatory,
and/or customer needs. (10 %)
5. Daily interact with plant personnel to provide quality and safety-related information. Keep gsf
associates apprised of quality/safety concerns and situations. Work towards establishing
solutions to concerns and, when possible, prevent unforeseen situations that could
compromise product quality/safety. (15 %)
6. Work with governmental inspectors to maintain establishment compliance to regulatory
guidelines. (5 %)
7. Trains new employees on gsf -specific techniques and practices. Visually observe meat
department associate and ensure compliance. (5 %)
8. Performs other related or assigned duties and projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIO NS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and experience equivalent to:
Education/Certifi cation:
Bachelor’s degree (completed or in-progress) in food science, chemistry, microbiology, or
related field of science from an accredited college or university
Experien ce:
1 to 3 years of relevant work experience or background; an understanding of food safety and
regulations is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of (B/basic; J/journey; E/expert):
HACCP programs and related food safety regulations and processes (B)

Skill and Ability To:

Work effectively with other departments, with a focus on food safety, and maintaining
high levels of product quality and meeting customer and company expectations.
Must have the ability to lift, push, and/or pull at least 38 lbs of weight.
