Summary THIS IS AN ARMY NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TITLE 32 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MI SMO - UTES), Position Description Number NGD1295000 and is part of the MI UTES, Michigan Army National Guard. Responsibilities ***THIS IS A TITLE 32 NATIONAL GUARD POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP*** This position is located in the Joint Forces Headquarters-State, Logistics Directorate (J-4), Surface Maintenance Facility. The purpose of this position is to provide overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions. Work operations involve scope, volume, and complexity that they are carried out by subordinate supervisors in two or more separate organizational segments or groups, and are controlled through one or more levels of supervision. The occupation and non-supervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-10. Planning: Plans on a quarterly or longer basis, the overall use of subordinate personnel and resources under their control. Determines resource requirements, materials, the number of subordinates and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules. Allocates resources and distributes work to organizational segments or groups under their control. Work Direction: Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed. Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations. Administrative: Assures that subordinate supervisors effectively carry out policies to achieve management objectives. Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors, makes formal appraisals of their performance, and determines their training needs. Schedules leave of subordinate supervisors, reviews personnel actions, and performance appraisals initiated by them, acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors, and maintains administrative records. Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised. Implements and complies with agency, state, and federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements. Ensures use of quality conformant products through compliance with established materials shelf life programs. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. May be required to serve as a member of the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET). The above duty description doesn't contain all details of the official position description. Military Grades: CW3-O4 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-11 and above - Experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment. Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems. Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls. Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs. WS (All Grade Levels) - In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Education No substitution of education allowed for this position.
