    Description

    Position Summary:

    The Inpatient Unit Coordinator / APRN is responsible for the clinical and operational oversight of the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), Detox/Addictions Receiving Facility (ARF), and Residential Treatment Facility (RTF). This position provides direct supervision to nursing and support staff and oversees day-to-day operations of the inpatient programs. Utilizing advanced clinical training as an APRN, the Program Coordinator conducts physical examinations for incoming admissions, provides primary medical care throughout hospitalization, and functions as the primary care prescriber for the inpatient unit. The role collaborates closely with the Medical Director and Area Director to ensure high-quality, integrated, and client-centered services are delivered to all individuals receiving care.

    Essential Job Functions:

    + Conduct comprehensive medical physical examinations for inpatient admissions.

    + Order Medical medications, labs, diagnostics, and necessary treatments.

    + Manage and monitor acute and chronic medical conditions throughout client stay.

    + Provide medical consultation and interventions for urgent medical needs on the unit.

    + Collaborate with psychiatric providers regarding co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.

    + Ensure all medical documentation meets agency, regulatory, and funding source requirements.

    + Communicate significant medical findings directly to the Medical Director.

    + Provide operational leadership for the inpatient programs.

    + Operate within approved program budget.

    + Review incident reports, client grievances, and ensure follow-up per agency protocol.

    + Report safety issues, maintenance needs, and all unusual occurrences promptly.

    + Perform or delegate duties of the designated Safety Officer.

    + Work collaboratively with the Area Director and Medical Director.

    + Approve purchase orders for supplies and equipment within budget and agency guidelines.

    + Ensure compliance with WestCare/GCC policies, CARF standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

    + Develop and oversee corrective or action plans as needed.

    + Provide daily supervision, direction, and support to RNs, BHTs, Discharge Planner, and Peer Specialist.

    + Work closely with Lead BHT

    + Conduct regular staff meetings and maintain minutes and attendance records.

    + Ensure thorough onboarding and policy orientation for all new employees.

    + Ensure all inpatient staff maintain current TACT and CPR certification.

    + Implement staff development and training plans based on identified needs.

    + Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and prepare/approve staff schedules.

    + Support staff in crisis situations and ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices.

    + Serve as a resource to staff on clinical, medical, operational, and procedural issues.

    + Participate in the Florida Keys Leadership Team as an active member.

    + Attend outside meetings and represent WestCare/GCC as assigned.

    + Support implementation of Comprehensive, Continuous, Behavioral Health Care model and CCBHC

    + Monitor compliance with all licensure, certification, and accreditation requirements.

    + Ensure documentation meets GCC and funding-source standards.

    + Develop and implement procedures to optimize client and staff safety.

    + Contribute to annual budget development.

    + Oversee clinical record retention and proper disposition of program documents.

    + Respond promptly to phone calls, emails, and written correspondence.

    + Serve in the Overnight Administrator On-Call rotation as assigned.

    + Complete and maintain the provider schedule.

    + Collaborate with Florida Keys Leadership Team members for program development and system improvements.

    + Work directly with the Discharge Planner to ensure timely and clinically appropriate discharge transitions.

    + Serve as a liaison with community agencies in a professional manner.

    + Maintain high standards of clinical care and promote a safe, therapeutic environment.

    + Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Essential Qualifications:

    Certifications/Licensures:

    + Current Florida Registered Nurse license

    + Current Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license (Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric APRN)

    + Certified in CPR, First Aid, and TACT

    Education:

    + Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a degree in Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or related field is required

    Experience and Competencies:

    + CPR Certification, First Aid Certification and an annual Tuberculosis test.

    + Six years of nursing experience, two of which must be in psychiatric nursing

    + One year of nursing supervisory experience

    + Experience in inpatient behavioral health strongly preferred

    + Ability to meet requirements of DCF/Department of Corrections background check

    + Emotional stability to function effectively under stressful conditions

    + Ability to manage competing demands and maintain workflow efficiency

    + Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to new routines, procedures, and tasks

    + Ability to function effectively as both team member and team leader

    + Competence in handling complex assignments and making sound clinical decisions

    + High level of nursing and advanced practice clinical skills

    + Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities

    + Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times

    + Demonstrated professional leadership and staff-development skills

    + Ability to stand or walk 80–100% of shift

    + Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance

    + Knowledge of state of Florida mental health and substance abuse statutes

    + Knowledge of CARF accreditation standards

    + Ability to develop and deliver effective training modules

    Working Conditions:

    + Work is primarily performed in an office or residential treatment setting; and

    + Some outdoor activities may be required.

    Physical Demands:

    + Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations through the use of approved physical de-escalation techniques.

    + Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

    + Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.

    + Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.

    + The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.

    Mental Demands:

    + Requires the ability to collect and analyze complex numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions.

    + Requires the ability to work and cooperate with clients, co-workers, managers, the public and employees at all levels in order to exchange ideas, information, instructions and opinions.

    + Requires the ability to work under stress and in emotionally charged settings.
