Job Description
As a Senior Fab Shop Manufacturing Engineer at BAE Systems, you will use yours skills to develop and improve manufacturing/machining processes by studying product and manufacturing methods. You will create and modify CNC programs, as well as design fixtures and tooling for operations, manufacturing processes and material handling. You will complete calculations and design for new equipment and process improvement, as well as create and maintain technical drawings for processes, tooling, and fixtures to support manufacturing operations.
_This is a first shift position on a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off!_
Maintains communication with Shop Value Stream Leader (VSL) and Shop Lead to ensure efficiency of all fabrication processes and resolve all issues pertaining to them. Coordinate with VSL or Lead, provide support to all teams, and maintain quality of all work processes in systems. Provide day-to-day technical support to fab shop personnel. When needed, supports the shop floor personnel to set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, planers, and precision grinders to make metal parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Analyze current shop practices and recommend improvements.
Troubleshoots and analyzes problems with production and assembly. Analyzes root causes for all fabrication issues. Interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications: determines sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup: uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments: makes standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work, tooling, feeds, and speeds: measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining: fits and assembles precision parts into mechanical equipment and determines material, parts, and equipment required.
Review of Engineering design drawings for manufacturability and development of alternative approaches to ease the manufacturing process and reduce cost. Support Engineering design and prototyping efforts, prepare detail tooling drawings using Cad software and develop work plan instructions for all fabrication processes. Design jigs and fixtures as required.
Support the development of estimates for fab shop efforts. Participate in Basis of Estimate (BOE) creation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Support various aspects of tooling development, including but not limited to; design reviews, support of fabrication and qualification related to prototype, pilot and production.
+ Support the design, review and implementation of new products, tooling and fixtures.
+ Provide fab shop cost estimates in support of engineering and production needs. Create BOEs.
+ Development of process and maintenance requirements of new machines on the floor. Establish documentation outlining procedures and maintenance schedules.
+ Design and/or Manage tooling designs.
+ Creation of CNC programs and shop work plans.
+ Research and qualify potential new equipment purchases.
+ Establish and maintain manufacturing work plans
+ Analyze and establish production standard times
+ Optimize, establish, and organize work areas considering ergonomics and material flow
+ Review and approve engineering changes with minimal impact/risk to production
+ Responsible for determining the material and method of how parts are fabricated (raw stock, forgings, castings, etc.)
+ CNC machine programming experience
+ Proficiency in tooling design to include fixturing/tooling, go/no-go gauges, and poke-yoke devices to improve productivity, safety and quality
+ Identify and participate in Continuous Improvement events
+ Assist in developing PFMEAs
+ Machining and Fabrication experience and equipment capability knowledge
+ Basic Materials (Metallurgical) knowledge
+ Welding process knowledge preferred
+ Experience with Jigs and Fixtures.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
+ Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a Manufacturing Fab Shop environment.
+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with co-workers. Hands-on floor support experience and working with shop employees.
+ Strong problem solving skills. Using a combination of solid engineering principles and common knowledge.
+ Geometric dimension & tolerance (GD&T) experience
+ Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities using strong organizational and time management skills to meet time sensitive deadlines.
+ Accuracy and attention to detail.
+ Advanced computer skills.
+ Experience working with 3D software and CAD models.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

+ Green Belt / Black Belt Lean 6 Sigma training
+ Lean manufacturing training/experience
+ Strong understanding of numerical control (NC) programming
+ Experience with Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
+ Experience with AS9145
+ Experience with CREO software

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $84882 - $144300
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
