The **Sr Project Manager** is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of approved technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with architectural direction and strategic priorities. This position emphasizes execution discipline, predictability, and transparency to deliver projects on schedule, within scope, and in compliance with security and architectural standards. While not responsible for defining enterprise strategy, the **Sr Project Manager** ensures that approved strategies and designs are effectively translated into detailed coordination plans for all teams. The role also involves providing strategic oversight to mitigate risks, optimize resources, and ensure the quality and successful execution of SAGE projects.
Responsibilities
+ Translate approved architectural roadmaps and strategic priorities into executable project plans.
+ Develop integrated schedules, milestones, and dependency maps.
+ Identify project-level risks and issues, and inter-project and cross-team dependencies that impact delivery timelines.
+ Ensure projects adhere to architectural standards, security requirements, and compliance mandates (e.g., RMF, STIGs, federal IT policies).
+ Prepare project materials for architecture and portfolio governance reviews as required, and track and document approvals, conditions, and action items resulting from governance decisions.
+ Lead planning sessions include coordinating the team’s delivery plan, gaining sign-off from relevant stakeholders, and inputting relevant data into the Project Management Tool.
+ Maintain Jira as the project management tool, ensuring data accuracy and consistency for all project activity.
+ Maintain detailed project roadmaps in Jira to include sequencing, milestone delivery, and resource allocation.
+ Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, proactively communicating potential challenges to stakeholders.
+ Complete the Weekly Activity Report (WAR) Submission. Track project progress against defined metrics and provide regular status updates to stakeholders, including senior management.
+ Define resource capacity for the SAGE team and monitor resource capacity, ensuring teams have the necessary support to achieve their goals.
+ Facilitate communication and collaboration among project teams and stakeholders.
+ Ensure project deliverables meet acceptance criteria and quality standards. Gain Section Chief approval of all completed deliverables.
+ Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to understand business needs and priorities.
+ Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities effectively to stakeholders.
+ Facilitate alignment between teams and stakeholders, ensuring everyone is working towards common goals.
+ Build strong relationships with stakeholders to foster trust and collaboration.
+ Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across projects.
+ Stay up to date on industry’s best practices and emerging trends in project management and Agile.
+ Promote a collaborative and transparent team environment, encouraging open communication and constructive feedback.
+ Identify and address team impediments, fostering a problem-solving culture.
+ Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management and Agile practices within the organization.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, Systems Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
+ 7+ years of experience managing IT projects in complex enterprise environments
+ Certifications such as PMP, ITIL, SAFe Agilist, or equivalent are desired
+ TS/SCI
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Demonstrated experience delivering projects involving infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, or enterprise platforms
+ Strong experience with project planning, dependency management, and risk mitigation
+ Ability to coordinate across technical and non-technical stakeholders
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Experience in federal, DoD, or highly regulated environments
+ Familiarity with architecture governance and portfolio review processes
+ Experience supporting cybersecurity and compliance-driven initiatives
+ Knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices, including Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and traditional frameworks, with an understanding of how to apply them within a federal IT environment.
+ Knowledge of the IT project lifecycle, specifically in the context of architecture-driven initiatives involving infrastructure, cloud, and cybersecurity platforms.
+ Knowledge of enterprise project management tools, particularly Jira, for maintaining project data, roadmaps, resource allocation, and ensuring data accuracy.
+ Project Planning and Scheduling Skills, demonstrated by the ability to translate strategic roadmaps into executable, integrated schedules with clear milestones, dependencies, and resource assignments within Jira.
+ Risk and Issue Management Skills, including the practical skill of identifying, documenting, mitigating, and proactively communicating project-level risks to stakeholders to prevent delays.
+ Communication and Reporting Skills, with proficiency in creating and delivering concise status updates, such as the Weekly Activity Report (WAR), and tailoring communications for stakeholders from technical teams to senior management.
+ Ability to provide strategic oversight, guiding projects to mitigate risk, optimize resources, and maintain alignment with architectural intent without defining the strategy itself.
+ Ability to operate effectively within established governance, ensuring project adherence to architectural standards, security requirements, and compliance mandates throughout the entire lifecycle.
+ Ability to drive execution and ensure delivery discipline, holding teams accountable for milestones and ensuring deliverables meet defined quality standards and acceptance criteria for Section Chief approval.
