General Statement
MSU’s Gallatin College Aviation Program is hiring a dedicated flight simulation training manager and FAA -certified Flight Instructor. This position will work directly under the supervision of the Program Director, overseeing the use, maintenance, and upgrade of program flight simulation capabilities currently valued at nearly $100,000 with an anticipated acquisition of an additional capabilities valued at over $125,000.
Duties and Responsibilities
Non-Tenure Track Instructor
+ Teach up to two courses, four sections, per semester, including summer session.
+ Courses include:
+ AVFT 141, Advanced Navigation
+ AVFT 143, Instrument Ground
+ AVFT 245, Commercial Ground;
+ others as needed
+ Update existing course curriculum as needed / when directed by the Program Director.
+ Create new course curriculum when directed by the Program Director.
Simulation Training Manager & Instruction
+ Manage current Aviation Program Simulator Lab
+ Ensure existing Redbird simulators are operational and have up-to-date software.
+ Ensure existing PC-based desktop simulator stations are functional on a daily basis.
+ This includes maintaining the stations on the university network.
+ Updating XPlane flight simulator software as required to maintain full functionality.
+ Ensure accessories are fully functional and in working order: yokes, throttle quadrants, and rudder pedals.
+ Coordinate with AVFT 141, Advanced Navigation NTT to have all simulators fully functional during required class periods.
+ Instruct students on how to use simulators in alignment with FAA requirements.
+ Assist Program Director in the procurement, shipping, and installation of a new, full-motion, FAA -approved flight simulation training device.
+ Once installed, oversee daily use of the above full-motion simulator. Tasks will include:
+ Ensuring functionality on a daily basis.
+ Coordinating with manufacturer for any required maintenance, software updates, etc.
+ Providing Certified Flight Instructor oversight to students utilizing the simulator in order to allow students to log training time in completion of FAA certificates and ratings.
+ Assist students in using the simulator for professional development as needed.
+ Coordinate acquisition and use of Virtual Reality training systems necessary for increasing student proficiency and capability.
Student Progress Coordinator and Admissions Liaison
+ Liaises with contracted flight provider to ensure students are adequately and appropriately scheduled for their flying training events.
+ Coordinates with MSU registrar, Gallatin College staff and prospective students to arrange in-person visits and on-line orientations.
+ Prepare reports as necessary for internal and external review ( FAA ).
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree or greater in an aviation-related field
+ FAA -Certified Flight Instructor
+ Experience instructing Garmin G-1000 and similar aviation avionics systems
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ FAA Certified Advanced Ground ( AGI ) and/or Instrument Instructor ( IGI )
+ Prior post-secondary instructor experience
+ Experience mentoring and counseling high school-age students in aviation and other STEM topics.
+ Experience instructing in two- or four-year Part 141 Pilot Schools
