• Network Engineer

    Robert Half Technology (Houston, TX)


    Description

    Key Responsibilities

    + Support deployment and configuration of switches, routers, APs, and firewalls across branch and data center networks.

    + Monitor network health using NMS tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG) and respond to alerts, tickets, and incidents.

    + Perform basic troubleshooting (Layer 1–4), VLAN and ACL updates, and patching/firmware tasks.

    + Assist with Wireshark packet captures, Syslog analysis, and SIEM investigations in collaboration with security teams.

    + Maintain documentation: network diagrams, IPAM, inventory, change records, and runbooks.

    + Participate in change management (ITIL) and follow configuration standards and playbooks.

    + Learn and contribute to automation (Ansible playbooks, simple Python scripts) and template-based configuration.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications

    + 0–2+ years in networking or a related IT role (internship/co‑op experience welcome).

    + Familiarity with TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS/DHCP, VLANs, ACLs, and basic BGP/OSPF concepts.

    + Exposure to Cisco CLI and common enterprise networking tools; comfort with Wireshark.

    + Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and willingness to document and follow standards.

     

    Preferred

     

    + Certifications: CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Cisco DevNet Associate.

    + Experience with Meraki/Aruba, basic firewall policies, and introductory automation (Ansible/Python).

    + Understanding of cloud networking primitives (VPC/VNet, peering, VPN, DNS).
