Position Summary:
Assists healthcare service providers by monitoring patients' EKG waveforms. Interprets results, recognizes irregular heart functions, such as an arrhythmia and informs provider of potentially hazardous arrhythmias.
Maintains monitoring equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
:
1. Monitors cardiac rhythms, reviews and tests memory alarms, set alarm parameters, and performs arrhythmia analysis.
2. Monitors and documents cardiac rhythm strips per hospital guidelines.
3. Communicates changes in patient telemetry status according to policy.
4. Applies and removes telemetry equipment from patients using proper technique and universal precautions.
5. Troubleshoots monitoring equipment and paging system as necessary.
6. Performs activities related to equipment maintenance including routine battery changes, equipment checks, and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
7. Maintains monitoring supplies at designated par levels.
8. Communicates effectively with nursing and medical staff.
9. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications.
10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.
2. Current knowledge of treatment theories, practices and techniques per discipline.
3. Knowledge and skill with common office software applications.
4. Compliance with the Code of Ethics and Guide for Professional Conduct.

7. Six (6) months experience or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
8. One (1) month of job-related experience and/or training
9. BLS certification and Canadian equivalent
10. One (1) year of experience in a medical setting, preferred.
11. Facilitates admission, discharge and transfer procedures for patients on and off unit.
12. Contributes to the effective communication and efficient operational needs of the unit.
13. Participates at least fifty percent (50%25) of unit staff meetings; reads and initials minutes of meetings not attended.
14. Demonstrates a commitment to continued self-growth and maintenance of competency.
Qualifications:
_Required:_
+ High school diploma or GED.
+ Completion of course in arrhythmia detection.
_Preferred:_
+ Three (3) months of job-related experience.
+ Completion of formal coursework in EKG.
